eddie11c
Is there a fix for the current amount of time you must sit staring at a black screen before the desktop finally loads? I have an AMD system with an Nvidia 7800 GTX. I was able to update to 10.5.2 and the graphics update, but now it takes forever for my system to boot up. Once at the desktop everything moves along like normal with full QE/CI. Nadeo
Right! Use the new Kernels, they work without any Problems for me. Great work this time. I was never able to update Tiger, but Leopard runs. eddie11c
Ok I fixed this with the new kernel. The problem with the new kernel is you have to be running EFI which I wasn't. Installed EFI and the new kernel and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the advise though. wlfdgcrkz
10.5.1 iatkos + 10.5.2 update - native kernel does not fix the issue with my P5K-E wifi, nor does reinstaling current nvinject. xghost
do the new kernels also work for sse2 cpus? I'm running a Intel Pentium M (Centrino) 730 1,73 ghz i think.... btw i know that the vanilla kernel won't work of course but i hope the patched ones do. hackeron
If you used the Kalyway combo, you should install the newer kernel (a separate Kalyway download). I can't find a Kalyway 9.2.0 kernel - only a Netkas one. Can you please provide a link? MrDJ
When you said you had a long boot, would you just get a gray screen with a cursor spinning? I am trying to get my first successful install of Kalyway 10.5.2 and the furthest I have gotten is the gray screen, it has not gotten past this screen. I am just trying to figure out if this is the same issue? I am running nvidia as well Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87328-1052-and-slow-boot-to-desktop/#findComment-714741 Share on other sites
blivrail
Ok I fixed this with the new kernel. The problem with the new kernel is you have to be running EFI which I wasn't. Installed EFI and the new kernel and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the advise though. Hey there, I am on an an Intel Pentium M (SSE2) which does not seem to be an option in the updated Kalyway 10.5.2 kernels. The first choice is for the vanilla Apple kernel, and the second choice is for SSE3 only. Which one should I choose for my case? I am getting about 5 min booting time, and most of the time is the black screen after the grey Apple-logo screen. I used Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD, followed by the Kalyway 10.5.2 Combo Installer. Thanks. quantux
I get the same sort of wait on boot, but only when I have my shuffle plugged in. I know it has to be the problem, because it'll sit there and clock forever and eventually get to black screen, and sits there forever, but if I unplug the shuffle at any point, it just kicks into gear immediately. Looks to be a problem with my usb (board wouldn't even post with the shuffle plugged in and usb dos compat turned on in bios). I also have to boot with it plugged in, and then yank it and then plug it back in after deskltop loads before osx will mount it. Kind of similar to my only other issue with my install: randomly when I insert a CD, it'll spin up and shows on the desktop for a split second, then disappears. Acts like the drive is still mounted though, when I hit the eject button nothing happens. It started happening a lot less once I went from two optical drives to one. Otherwise everything works fine. Installed using leo4allv3 checking only via, rhine, and ac97 drivers. Installed nvidia using nvinstaller 41. Celeron D 2.53Ghz 2 GB DDR1 Ram MSI PM8M2-V Mainboard (via 8237 sata, ac97, rhine 2 ethernet) HP 630 DVD r/w WD 500 GB sata HDD nVidia 5200 128 MB generic card (qe/ci all work, just no transparent menubar) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87328-1052-and-slow-boot-to-desktop/#findComment-754424 Share on other sites
blivrail
I fixed my root waiting time by installing PCMCIA drivers. If you look at the system logs (/var/log/system.log) you should be able to compare timestamps to figure out where a timeout occured. Then you can diagnose from there.
