justin2007
It's been nearly 8 years since I last experienced OSX. Back then it was still in beta and the experience as you'd expect was nothing to write home about - I didn't switch and largely remained a windows* user. This year I decided to upgrade my pc so that I could play Crysis. Prior to my purchase I ran across InsanelyMac and after reading a number of positive "Hackintosh" stories I decided to upgrade using highly-compatible OSX hardware. However, at the time getting a PC that would run Crysis on "Very High" settings was my priority and tinkering with OSX (if it even worked) remained a seconardary dream. I ended up buying a Gigabyte DS3L, Gigabyte 8800GT 512, 3x SATA HD (Windows, OSX and Backup), 1x SATA DVD-R/W, and 2GB RAM. Kalyway installed flawlessly. I patched the audio and video. Everything just worked. I found myself neglecting Crysis and spending time with OSX instead. I installed (as trials or the like) most applications I work with on a day-to-day basis such as Adobe CS3 design suite, Transmission, Lightroom, Office '08, Eclipse, and Flex. I even bought a copy of iLife '08 to make use of the fantastic in-built iPhoto book printing services. I've switched, and I'd like to thank everyone who has worked on OSX x86 (Kalyway, etc) and also those who post installation FAQs. apowerr
I'm glad everything worked out for you =) I feel similar to the way you do, Windows is nice but once you try to OS X theres no going back. This post shouldn't necessarily belong in 'Reader News' but it's ok, a mod will move it. MeAngry
I totally agree with the TS. OS X runs almost flawlessly on my desktop so I've made the switch for almost 100%. But since I couldn't get things 100% working on my laptop though (no powermanagement is a pain in the !@#) I've also bought a MacBook so I'm also able to run OS X on the way. And I'm sure I would've never bought a MB if I wouldn't have been able to try OS X first the way I could now.
