Just reformatted and reinstalled leopard then iTunes 7.6. I am using the library i previously backed up which was made in 7.6. cmdshft
1) Can people use .png's for crying out loud? How hard is it to change the format in Photoshop...? I mean really, an extra few seconds... 2) Use a fresh library. Install languages. You know, the basics. luke255
Oh sorry i didn't convert the TIFF Grab.app made for me to a PNG to better suit your tastes. Also if I was going to pointlessly change the image format i wouldn't have paid $649 for Photoshop when Preview.app or even mspaint.exe can convert it for free. Getting to the actual point of this thread, if that's alright with Mr. Taiki, I would prefer to find out what caused my library to do this for no reason so I can fix it rather than recreating my library and loosing all my ratings, play count, etc. I am still trying my own solutions so I will post it in case anyone else faces this annoying problem. To clarify I speak english and I never use the language (I don't even know what it is) and I havn't eeven installed Language Translations (to speed up install and because I wouldn't use them). As you can see in this picture all the text in the iTunes and equalizer window is in hieroglyphs however you can see that the Get Info window still shows the correct information. Note to "Hara Taiki". This is not a PNG for your benefit i just used the screen capture shortcut to capture the whole screen. Also note that despite the fact the PNG only has a slightly larger resolution it is over double the size... cmdshft
Still helps, I hate opening Photoshop to just view a pic when I can just use the browser itself. It looks like you have it set to Hebrew. Try checking the language settings in iTunes itself. Also, you can try installing iTunes 7.6 with Pacifist and see if that helps any. I've never had this problem, and it's quite interesting to see.. You can also try asking in the IRC channels. luke255
Moving my library so iTunes creates another one is not solving the problem. I will try reinstalling with package from apple then pacifist if that dosen't work. luke255
Still not working. I reinstalled from package, then AppZapped and reinstalled from package, then AppZapped and installed using pacifist and still nothing. If I mess with international settings in System Preferences I can only change the glyhps into other ones. The thing is though those song names should all be in english it doesn't make and sense and i'm losing my patience! luke255
ok i've determined the problem is something in the "Library" folder in my home folder as all other users of this computer don't have the problem. To check this i manually made a home folder for "Test" which had a copy of my library in it. Obviously I had some keychain problems but itunes on that account loaded with the same glyphs! i spotlighted everything to do with the word iTunes in my library and deleted it but still it defaults to that language i think i'm going to delete my account using another administrator account, keeping my home folder, then re add my account so effectivley i default my settings and keep my files. ANNOYING but hey... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86321-itunes-languagecharacter-problems/#findComment-612931 Share on other sites
Steve P.
Hello. I am new to this Forum, as well as being a new Mac user. I have had my MacBook Pro for just over a week now, and have this same issue (exactly - same glyphs). When I open the "More Info" pane for the songs, everything still comes up in English, but the other language is used in the library (Hebrew?)... Was it determined that the solution Luke255 posted above solves this problem? My version of iTunes if 8.0.2, and I'm running OSX 10.5.6 As a new Mac user, I'm not too familiar yet with the ins and outs of the OS, so the simplest solution would be great, even if it means losing ratings, playcounts, preferences, etc (even iTunes settings is fine, I have no problem re-customizing it). Thanks in advance! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86321-itunes-languagecharacter-problems/#findComment-1021382 Share on other sites
Steve P.
Ok... disregard the last post. I went ahead and solved the problem using the method described by Luke255. It wasn't so tough after all. I had to re-customize all my user settings, but at least I can see my library now. I actually faced this problem again in November. I had been using my iTunes Library file in Windows, not sure if this caused the problem. Again, the only way I could solve it was removing ~/Library defaulting all my settings. Pain in the arse but hey. If I do find the cause of this and a direct solution I will post it here for others to find who may have encountered the same issues. Peace. ... so effectivley i default my settings and keep my files. ANNOYING but hey... ...defaulting all my settings. Pain in the arse but hey... lol I hadn't even read the first post again b4 the second one I'm obviously just a broken record!
