stevns
Hi All, This is the install guide for the Asus P5E motherboard. It's empty, because i havn't successfully installed the Kalyway release 1.5.1 on my rig Please reply with any knowledge you may have on installing on this motherboard. This should include: Hardware: BIOS version BIOS setting different from default Optical drive Harddrive (I have trouble on my 750GB Samsung, so this is relevant) Graphics card Any specifik hardware configuration for successfull install. Install options: Drive partitioning and formatting (MBR/GUID) Added packages from the "customize" install pane Dual boot: What did you do to make it work? Other: Other info that is relevant? Posted replies with info will be added to this post. (Please add link to relevant post if you have any) Cheers Stevns Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86307-asus-p5e-install-guide-kalyway-151/ Share on other sites

stevns
where did you get stuck? maybe you want to fix your rig first and then write a howto? you tell about trouble with your HDD... how did you find that out? I have a Q6600 and 2 GB GEil RAM. Nothing special. Well, started off with disabling Speedstep, enabled AHCI in the bios. Installed a clean 750GB samsung spinspoint. booted in DVD (normal, no tags) Formatted the drive with one big HFS+ partition. Selected GUID Selected the Vanilla path + ACPI Selected the audio (ADI) Selected the vidio (NATIT ATI) Checked the EFI to be GUID The installer starts, runs, and then reboots automaticly when it says it "a few minutes" from ending. The system reboots, and i get the dreaded ./Com find error. Im currently trying different roads, but all help is greatfully accepted Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86307-asus-p5e-install-guide-kalyway-151/#findComment-612853 Share on other sites
Biuti
Hi, first of all, be sure your Bios config is ok: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=545523 I use SATA configured as AHCI but it works also as eIDE. In my Mobo there are two sata ports of different color (different controller), if you have them don't use them. Then, I have a P5E-WS Pro, very similar to your Mobo, and had no problem at all. type vanilla at startup, in the Custom Install I selected just Vanilla kernel and GUID EFI. You'll install the audio device after installation. I have an invidia so cannot help for ATI video card, but I'm quite sure you can wait for that as well. Biuti
I just changed my BIOS settings to the ones described in the link. How did you format your harddrive? I partitioned and formatted them through Disk utility during installation, HFS+ Journaled of course. I have two partitions in the main HD, one for the OS and the apps (50Gb should be enough), and one for my docs, music videos and so on. This way you can format and reistall the OS every time you feel it's necessary without loosing anything. Leave the Time machine disc with one partition. mtotho
OK, first of all. do not select any of those drivers on Customize, so many people have issues with this. Just select Vanilla/fix and MBR or GUID. Also, you cannot just select MBR if your want MBR or GUID if you want GUID. You actually have to format your hardrive with a guid scheme in diskutility (assuming you dont already know this) then you can select the respective option in customize. Dont worry about getting sound or video to work pre install.. the install will still work.. you will still get video.. then you can find the latest fixes for your hardware online.
