would it be possibull to mount my PC compents in a Apple G5 Case, then with a 20" Apple LCD, Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse, would then at least look like a mac, since it runs mac OSX X86, and would it be possibull to hack the CPU ID, to Display Apple G5 2.41ghz rather than (ADP 2.1) in the About This Mac?? obviousy you might need to modify the backplane, for it to fit the motherboard but would it be possibull, to get in 2 DVD-RW Drivers NEC ND-4550a and 1 hard drive, floppy drive, and a X-Pro Card Reader....

please let me know as if is possibull, i might consider it

Ben

are you planning on selling this as a fake-G5? :)

No because that would be Illegal, but it would make My Componets, look like a real, mac, rather than a PC running mac, as it would have the Apple Badges, but would cost a hell of a lot less money, its just something i want to do for my self, not to sell to anyone or anything, just is it possibull

Its difinitly possibible so long are your not afriad to take to the case with a dremel as it requires mounting a differing back panel, or filling the existing spaces with extensions and mounting the mobo further into the case than flush with the rear.

There are plenty of people who have attempted this with varying degrees of professionalism. I considered it at one point but sourcing a g5 case was proving expensive, upwards of £120.

The problem with fitting two optical drives and a floppy drive is that the g5 chassis was designed to handle on 1 optical drive - it has a nice stealth bay for it - making more bays for the droves would probably ruin the look of the case.

well currently with my pc setup i have 2 optical drives, but because of where the second IDE channel is on my PC, i only had the Primary Master connected, to my NEC ND-4550A and my 120gb PATA drive, so yes that wouldnt be to much of an issue, would it fit a 1.44mb floppy drive, and space for the X-Pro 3.5" Card Reader. or is there not 2 3.5" floppy bays in the case

Ben

As you can see in the attached pictures there are no front mounted 3.5" bays. The only 3.5" bays are the two present in the upper rear of the case intended for hard disks. In front of them is the single 5.25" bay for the optical drive.

If you do some searching of the internet there are plenty images of the inside of g5 cases to give you an idea of what sort of layout you can achieve. The apple service manual for the G5 also gives you pin-outs for the front mounted power button and USB/FW port.
