You will need the following Hardware for installation (only)

1. USB Keyboard and mouse (I used an iMac Keyboard and mouse)

2. Blank hard-disk or a disk you don’t mind reformatting

You will need the following files

1) Keyboard – Need PS2 Controller Zip download from Insanelymac.com (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=2576'>http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=2576)

2) ATI Xpress 200M Graphics – Need Katana ATI Drivers (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34068'>http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34068)

3) Power Icon and Battery Settings you need the PowerManagement Bundle (http://www.nedprod.com/Niall_stuff/MacOS%20X/PowerManagement.tar.gz'>http://www.nedprod.com/Niall_stuff/MacOS%20X/PowerManagement.tar.gz)

Installation and Setup Process:

1. Connect the USB Keyboard and Mouse to the Laptop

2. Installing a new clean disk or repartition existing disk

a. Remove all disk partitions using CopyCommander or Partition Magic

b. Partition the disk with Fat32

3. Boot from the Leopard AMD 10.5.1 disk

a. Go to Utilities -> Disk Utility in the menu bar.

b. Select the hard drive to install Leopard on

c. Go to the Partition tab, and select a 1 partition volume scheme, name it (I called mine Leopard), and choose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.

d. Click the Options button and select the partition scheme to MBR

4. Install Leopard AMD 10.5.1 then Restart

5. Go through Leopard initialization & registration screens

6. Reboot from Leopard DVD and Update MBR with Darwin Boot Loader

a. Go to Utilities -> Terminal

b. fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0

c. Answer y to install new MBR

d. Exit terminal

7. Set Root Password

a. Go to Utilities -> Reset Password

b. Select System Administrator (root)

c. Enter a temporary root password

8. Boot from the Hard-disk and install PS2, ATI Graphic and Power drivers.

a. If you get a b0 error then reboot the system with the Leopard DVD in the DVDROM drive. Do NOT hit any keys. The system will boot from the Hard disk using the Darwin Boot loader loaded from the Leopard DVD. You must make the hard-disk active by:

i. Opening terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal)

ii. Type: sudo passwd root

iii. Enter a new password to enable root access from with OS X

iv. sudo -s (enter your password)

v. fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 (the disk number may be different on your installation, eg. rdisk1)

vi. print (list all partitions)

vii. flag 1 (sets partition 1 as bootable - might be a different number on your installation)

viii. quit (answer y to save settings)

ix. Restart system

b. Copy ApplePS2Controller.kext from [PS2 Controller Zip download at (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=2576)] to /System/Library/Extensions

i. Open terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal)

ii. Type: su

iii. Enter the root user password

iv. Type: cd /System/Library/Extensions

v. Type: chown –R root:wheel ApplePS2Controller.kext

vi. Type: chown –R 755 ApplePS2Controller.kext

vii. Type: exit

viii. Close Terminal

ix. Shutdown system.

c. Disconnect the USB Keyboard and mouse (they are no longer needed)

d. Restart the computer

e. Prepare for the Katana ATI Driver installation by removing the files listed below from “/System/Library/Extensions/” folder

• ATIRadeon8500.kext

• ATIRadeon8500DVDDriver.bundle

• ATIRadeon8500GA.plugin

• ATIRadeon8500GLDriver.bundle

• ATIRadeon8500VADriver.bundle

• ATIRadeon9700.kext

• ATIRadeon9700DVDDriver.bundle

• ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin

• ATIRadeon9700GLDriver.bundle

• ATIRadeon9700VADriver.bundle

• ATIRadeonX1000.kext

• ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin

• ATIRadeonX1000GLDriver.bundle

• ATIRadeonX1000VADriver.bundle

• ATIRadeonX2000.kext

• ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin

• ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle

• ATIRadeonX2000AVDriver.bundle

f. Install the Katana ATI Graphics Driver found in the zip file located at: (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34068)

i. Run: Install Katana

ii. Get Graphic Device ID for Post install process

• Open: About this Mac

• Select: More Options (button)

• Under Hardware select: Graphics/Displays

• Write down Device ID

iii. Run: Post Install (you will need your Graphics Device ID)

g. Restart the computer

h. Set the Display to a desired resolution like 1280 x 800 by going to System Properties -> Display and selecting the appropriate resolution.

i. Prepare to install PowerManagement.bundle (Optional – enables battery status but does NOT fix known sleep and awake bug of Leopard)

i. Open terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal)

ii. Type: su

iii. Enter root’s password

iv. Type: cd /System/Library/SystemConfiguration

v. Type: mv PowerManagement.bundle /Users/oldPM.bundle

vi. Exit Terminal

j. Install PowerManagement Bundle by downloading (http://www.nedprod.com/Niall_stuff/MacOS%20X/PowerManagement.tar.gz) and copying the PowerManagement.bundle to /System/Library/SystemConfiguration

k. Restart the computer and adjust power settings as desired.

I have a DV5215us and it'll be the last laptop I EVER buy from HP. Every single instance and every single install DVD I've downloaded has lead to some sort of catastrophic failure. I'm giving it ONE LAST SHOT with the Zephyroth disc when it gets done downloading so that I can atleast post some errors but I will be going on your instructions HOPING this :):D :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: piece of :censored2: laptop will actually work with Leopard. My old 1.6Ghz P4 ANCIENT desktop will run any version I throw at it without a hitch, just slowly. This thing is the opposite. If it works, you're my hero. However its going to have to wait for the Apple TV, that comes first! Leopard on my 42" Panasonic Plazzzmaaahhh....mmmmmmmmmmmm.....pretty....

I'm having problems with the mouse and keyboard as well. I have a DV5000 (DV5220 specifically) and I can't get the built in mouse and keyboard to function. I also can't seem to get the Katana graphics driver working properly, as I can't change any of the graphics properties.

I am using Zephyroth 10.5.1

Would anyone be able to lend a hand?

Thanks!

any luck with this one? I was able to install iAtkos v4 on my ACER Aspire One and been trying to do the same on my HP DV5000 with no luck.

using the built-in dvd drive, i always get a "still waiting for root device" message. i tried to use an external dvd drive, but when i get to the installation process disk utility won't show my harddrive. only the dvd drive is showing.

I too have the exact same problem as NOX. Using an external drive overcomes the "still waiting..." but likewise does not show the Harddrives. I plugged in an external usb harddrive and that showed up.

Anyone with some insight on this problem?

Install an AMD version to an external USB disk (I used iDeneb v1.3), after installation copy the .kexts from

http://code.google.com/p/darwin-ata/downloads/list

(JMicronATA.kext, AppleNForceATA.kext, AppleVIAATA.kext)

into /System/Library/Extensions of the USB disk (I guess actually used is only AppleVIAATA.kext), and change the permissions of the .kexts to root:wheel. Remove the harddisk from the USB enclosure, and put it into the dv5000, boot, and it should work.

Fot getting the higher screen resolution, use Callisto b003 fixed (not the later versions of Callisto); this will give you the 1200x800 resolution, but no hardware acceleration. Looking movies is possible, but tedious. Remove /System/Library/Extensions/Natit.kext, on my system it interfered with the Callisto installation.

Sound is not yet working, I'm currently playing with some AC97 kexts, still work in progress.

WLAN worked out of the box. Wired Ethernet not yet checked.

USB works, I'm using an USB mouse attached to the dv5000.

For a Chameleon-based installation, I guess it is better to copy the .kexts mentioned above into /Extra/Extensions folder, so that they will not be overwritten by future updates.
