Rackers
I've downloaded a widget for the dashboard which reports CPU temperatures. What's strange is that in MAC (idle, nothing going on) my CPU sits at around 60, 56 while in Windows the same situation the CPU idles at 48, 43. So my question is, what is OSx doing to make my CPU get this hot? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/85485-e6600-temperature-on-mac/ Share on other sites
westwaerts
there was a topic like this, and one of the posters wrote to the developer with the reply, that osx temperature monitoring only works on original mac hardware. look in your bios for temperature ( mine says 43 C on cpu, and 31 on mobo) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/85485-e6600-temperature-on-mac/#findComment-606576 Share on other sites

Thanks It is doing nothing in my experience you have a revision B chip in the machine these seem to read 15-20C higher at least on my spare machines board, when I had an e6300 in it the readings would be off like I mentioned so I put a q6600 g0 in it and the temperatures are the same no matter which OS I boot with it now. BTW those temps seem a little high anyways the e6300 I mention which I run at 3000 usually runs in the mid 30's idle hardly ever breaks 50 under high load, I have the C1E enabled which slow the chip down/reduces the voltage when not under load you might want to try enabling this as well. Edit: As to the temperature monitoring only working with Mac machines using the Temperature Monitor program with my g0 processors it reports the same reading as I would see in either Win Xp or Debian GNU/Linux.
