Forgive me for being a dummy, but what am I editing in AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext > Info.plist file? Am I adding something, changing something, to what etc? (Post a copy of yours?)

I too have a WMP54GS, I'm using 10.4.8.

Thanks :D

Go here http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...ulip\.kext

Download and install the Tulip.kext (instructions are in the post)

You need to go deep within the IO80211Family.kext file to the AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext file. Edit its Info.plist file then go into terminal and find your way to the folder with the extension in it.

type sudo chown -R root:wheel IO80211Family.kext

sudo cp -rf ./IO80211Family.kext /System/Library/Extensions

Also go into the folder with the 10.4.4 extensions in terminal and type this

sudo chown -R root:wheel IONetworkingFamily.kext

sudo cp -rf ./IONetworkingFamily.kext /System/Library/Extensions

Reboot and you should seee the AirPort Daimond next to your clock. If it is there go into terminal and type this:

sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

You want to edit these lines:

<key>BSD Name</key>

---> <string>en0</string> (Change the en0 to en1)

<key>IOBuiltin</key>

<false/>

<key>IOInterfaceType</key>

<integer>6</integer>

<key>IOInterfaceUnit</key>

---> <integer>0</integer> (Change the 0 to 1)

In order to exit and save the file press ctrl-x.

Reboot again and it should work! This is the way I did it and it worked! Right now I posting from Safari with my Linksys WMP54GS!

BTW I read that some people had to delete certain files such as/System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

/System/Library/Extensions.mkext. I hope I was of help.

I got a Minitar MN54GPC 802.11g wireless PCI card working with 10.4.8.

It's a Broadcom card but I had a little bit of trouble getting it going.

System/Library/Extensions/I080211Family.kext

then right click on it and Show Package Contents -

/Contents/Plugins/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext

then right click on it and Show Package Contents -

/Contents/Info.plist

edit the Info.plist -

<string>pci14e4,4320</string>

then using the menu bar - go/utilities/disk utility/repair disk permisions

I found the problem was with the NetworkInterfaces.plist file -

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

Seems that it was kind of configured for firewire not for wireless.

So I copied someone elses NetworkInterfaces.plist file (just the bit I needed for airport), probably the one up a few posts, if you scroll up you'll see it, did the Disk Utilities - Repair Disk Permissions trick, rebooted and now it all working fine.

None of you {censored} heads are understanding us that need help!

All we need is simple steps on how to do this!

If you cant figure it out then perhaps its a little above your pay grade. there is no room for the language here.

if you dont have anything constructive to add then dont post at all.

Your post helped absolutely nobody.

Sounds like you need to do some reading if you dont know how to edit kext files.

Running OSX isnt for the faint of heart and no one is going to hold your hand through the entire thing.

Either you have what it takes to make it work or you dont.

And calling the good people that do try to help out new comers to this scene {censored} heads isnt going

to make them try harder to solve YOUR problems.

Think before you post.

to pabster and thrunner (or anybody who knows how to fix the problem pabster was having) how do you boot with battery power? the g520 is a pci slot card on a desktop. this is the sole reason i cannot use osx on a daily basis. i've done some checking, and basically the only problem is that my ip changes to 1.4.0.0 instead of what its supposed to be. but there is no way to change it back to what i need it to be to get internet. thanks for any help ;)

Forgive me for being a dummy, but what am I editing in AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext > Info.plist file? Am I adding something, changing something, to what etc? (Post a copy of yours?)

I too have a WMP54GS, I'm using 10.4.8.

Mine is a Minitar MN54GPC 802.11g Wireless NIC (Broadcom) so I did this -

System/Library/Extensions/I080211Family.kext

then right click on it and Show Package Contents -

/Contents/Plugins/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext

then right click on it and Show Package Contents -

/Contents/Info.plist

edit the Info.plist -

<string>pci14e4,4320</string>

then using the menu bar - go/utilities/disk utility/repair disk permisions

Reboot

Yours might be a little different because it's a different card, but yeah, that's the bit you need to edit/add, you'll see some similar lines in the Info.plist just edit them, you just need one line that corresponds to your card, you can find out the exact numbers you need by booting windows and using the device manager, forgotten exactly what you do but it's the device number and vendor number that you need.
