Is there any way to enable Quartz Extreme on the ATI Radeon 2600 XT Pro? I have the proper kexts from IRC installed and working great, but Quartz Extreme is not enabled. Maybe this can't be done, but I thought I would ask. Thanks!

I checked the info.plist file, and it appeared that the device ID (as shown in System Profiler) was already entered.

Can anyone provide any assistance to getting Quartz Extreme enabled? It appears that the model is already listed in the info.plist in the X2000.kext?

There are 2 sets of files on the irc - the Triakis 2400 2600 2900 driver and the 2600 ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle OpenGL fix. Did you install both? Did you delete Extensions.mkext? Although in your case since your DevID is already 9588 you probably don't need the 2600 ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle OpenGL fix. That is for the 2600 Pro version of the card with DevID 9589. This is the card I have and I needed this file.

You should just have to install Triakis, delete Extensions.mkext, repair permissions and reboot.

I have installed both sets of drivers and the OpenGL fix, and did exactly what you indicated to no result. My card works fine in Leopard, I just can't get QE enabled. As you can imagine, without QE, a few applications (such as Toast) won't open. As it seems others with the same card (2600 XT) have no problems, I have to assume my issues have something to do with my card's specific manufacture/model (Sapphire 2600XT model# 100218L, 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Ex 16x).

I hate to keep asking, but if anyone has had a similar issue or knows of something to possibly try, please let me know! I'd love to get this working! Thanks!

Force check the extensions using the flag -f at booup. Try that. Also did you repair permissions? I think I read somewhere that full support is coming in 10.5.2 anyway... Good for you if you're using a stock kernel and PC_EFI

Thanks for your response! I tried the -f boot flag, and it didn't help with enabling quartz extreme. I have repaired permissions. I have the driver working, just not quartz extreme support.

By the way, do you have a link to where you read about the 10.5.2 support? I'm curious to read more. I am using stock kernal and PC_EFI.

  • 4 weeks later...

will try 2600xt 10.5.2 9.2 EFI ...

tomorrow ,... from what I heard, in 10.5.2 with the graphics update it should be supported native,

have an Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R too,...

card MSI 2600xt fanless 512MB ,.... replacing my 7300gs,

really wanted to get the HIS version, it's a better design,...

but found, somebody else got the MSI working with no problems,....

I'll post back my results and xbench,...

currently , iatkos , EFI, not vanilla kernel, 7300gs, with netkas drivers,

plan: -> 10.5.2 combo update, kernel update to 9.2, and graphics update,...

oh, need to backup first,...

if I got this straight,.... I can do the upgrades, and then install the graphics card,

since the kext are loaded from kernel ?? is that right, or do I need to physically install graphics card first,

before 10.5.2 ?
