I have keyboard and mousepad glitches.

Store supplied Mac OS X disks, but no windows xp disks.

Store does not wish to discuss this further.

I tried to run windows checkdisk, but the screen only give reformat/reinstall option.

as I am complete newbie to mac i am stuck.

what are my options, can you recommend websites to assist with accellerated learing?

I am PC repair.

mac belongs to client.

she bought the mac from a store on university campus.

she is not happy as the store refuses to speak with her about her mac.

I will ask her to reinstall.

??? if she says go ahead. do I just insert disk, boot press C and follow prompts, much like PC???

if yes I will convince her to go ahead as this mac is very sick as it is.

Just pop the mac installation disc in and once the installation menu is shown go to Tools->"Disc Utility":

- Select the drive from the list on the left and then press "partition" (right side).

- Select the "1 Partition" option from the pull down menu and HFS+ as the file system.

- Press the "Options" button on the bottom of the screen and select GUID. Press OK.

- Now apply the changes and when it's done (should take like a minute or two) close the disc utility and continue with the OSX installation.

Hope this helps,

I know how you feel, some days I feel like banging my head against a brick wall.

I can't get any sense out of her.

but thank you all for the help.

??? as newbie to mac - bootcamp? what? how? why?

and can you recommend reading/website for crash course to new universe

would appreciate guidance

Bootcamp is a native Mac mechanism for running XP on an Intel-based Mac.

Official details are HERE and you'll find a lot of information on Insanely Mac about using it.

I'd like to offer more help but I've never used it myself, my Macs are PowerPC based (and can't run Windows natively) and I use XP on standalone Windows machines. I'm sure there will be plenty of people here who will come to your rescue!

Good luck!

insert the leopard dvd, format the whole hard drive with the ntfs structure, and install mac os x leopard

then, when you booted in mac os x you click on the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the screen and type: boot. open the program "Boot Camp-assistant" which should appear in the list. and then all you have to do is to follow the easy instructions on the screen. Once you installed xp, reboot your pc, and just after the boot tone of the macbook, you press "alt" and you will get two options to boot: xp and leopard. choose xp and boot it up. then (if the drivers aren't installed yet) insert the leopard dvd and install the necessary drivers"

welcome the the world of the mac :)

You can't install Leopard on an NTFS file system.
now i'm confused. yes/no to the NTFS file system?

this system is not running leopard.

it only boots to xp

there is no option to boot to another op sys.

Please. Just follow the directions I gave you above, repartition the drive with HFS+ and install OSX. OSX CANNOT BE INSTALLED ON NTFS. Is that clear enough?
Putting any version of windows on a Mac should be made illegal whether it be native or in boot camp.. :D

Unless you're stuck working with a company that works mainly with windows applications and you're a programmer/software designer. I'll take parallels on my macbook over having to buy a PC any time.

Shouldn't be done, those two should be kept far apart... unless your trying to OSx86... then thats OK...

in 1997 Microsoft helped Apple out, Apple shouldn't and won't do the same when MS goes down the {censored}ter...
