Wilco
So I've installed OS X on a second partition with XP on my first partition. My problem is that now I cannot get it to boot into OS X. I have Acronis OS Selector set up and it can boot XP just fine, but it can't seem to find OS X. Even when I point it towards the correct partition it simply says it couldn't find an OS on that partition. Did I do something out of order? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Serphi
Try booting from the install DVD, but don't press any keys, it should load up OSX from the OSX partition (if it's active, which would be the case after you selected it via the bootmanager.) So choose OSX at bootmanager, reboot, boot from dvd, don't press any keys and hopefully osx boots. This is the only way I get it working here too.. chain0 and other stuff just don't seem to work ><
Wilco
Hmm, it doesn't seem to work. I'm currently using the iATKOS 1.0i release (if that helps). I just disabled Acronis to see if it will just write the bootloader to the MBR during my next try ant installing. Is there anything else I can try? Also, what are you referring to when you say "So choose OSX at bootmanager?" After installation, the system reboots and I don't find any reference to OSX existing on my system anywhere. Wilco
I'm going to try installing it alone on an extra hard drive just to make sure the OS will boot at all, though I imagine if that works I'll be back to where I am now - needing to dual boot rather than plugging/unplugging hard drives to switch between operating systems. So any help is appreciated! :-) <insert begging simley face here>
Lifeforce
So I've installed OS X on a second partition with XP on my first partition. Not sure if you've done this but you have to make your OS X partition a Primary Partition and then set it as active. Once you've done that you can use the Darwin bootloader to either boot into Windows XP or OS X. BTW: You can also re-partition your HD using Windows XP (which would destroy all data) and create two partitions; This time, before installing Windows XP first, install OS X on your first partition and then Windows XP on your second. These are just some of the things I did to be able to dual boot.
Wilco
Ok, after trying to install it on its own hard drive (with no other drives connected), it again will install without any problems. Once I reboot after the install and it tries to boot off the hard drive, I get the message "Error loading operating system." Booting off the DVD only gives me the option of running the OS X installer again. Is this weird or what???
Nuifrkns
Wilco, This may be a 'blinking cursor' problem in disguise (there ae many hints on this forum). Is this the only message you get after the BIOS self-check? Probably your Leo HD gas not been set as an active boot device as this is not automatically doen with some distros. I had to use GParted Live to do this after instaling iAtkos (I got a blinking cursor after BIOS checked/updates the 'DMI pools').
wigworm
or better yet, you probably didn't install darwin bootloader properly or forgot to install it all together.
drnrat
to boot macos ... place chain0 in windows boot directory (c:\) add c:\chain0="Mac OS Leopard" line to boot.ini
Wilco
So what is the proper way to install the bootloader? I was under the impression that it would simply install it automatically, is this not the case when using a distro like iATKOS? I have a feeling this is the problem, because the partition has the active & boot flags set.
wigworm
So what is the proper way to install the bootloader? I was under the impression that it would simply install it automatically, is this not the case when using a distro like iATKOS? I have a feeling this is the problem, because the partition has the active & boot flags set. iATKOS 1.0i doesn't integrate the darwin bootloader into installation. You have to manually install them under utility. The updated version of iATKOS install darwin bootloader automatically due to many people like you neglect to read the instruction on how to install. So the team thought just make it automatic. Anyways, to install Darwin Bootloader, boot up installation dvd, once you are in the installation main menu, go to disk utility to erase your disk to MAC OS Journaled extended. Quit disk utility. Then under utility, you will find a darwin bootloader install tool. Just click on that and follow the on screen instruction. Read very carefully during installation process as giving a wrong disk or partition number may mess up your window boot.
linuxholgi
I have exactly the same proplem and using the latest iATKOS without any Bootloader Options under Ultilities. Checked with gParted if the partition is set bootable and it is. Boots fine with an inserted iATKOS DVD and OSX rums smootly. Booting with Kalyway was not a problem, but with Kalyway nothing else worked. What can I do? Holger
Nuifrkns
I used the patched iAtkos (for SSE2) and it did not have a Darwin loader option under Utilities. I used the MBR option, made a single HFS+ partition and after install ended up w. the blinking cursor. In GParted, it showed up as that the bootflag had been set, but anyway I 'un-set' it, wrote the change w. GParted, then set it again (and wrote it in GParted). After that, Leo booted... Holger: you may try un-setting and re-setting of the boot flag in GParted. For more options, search for 'blinking cursor' as there are more ways of getting it resolved. Wilco
I'm going to try installing the bootloader and will see what happens (though the last two posts make me less than optimistic). [EDIT] Hey whaddya know, it worked! Now I just have to figure out why it freezes during the apple logo/spinny thing...
wigworm
it freezes most likely due to graphic driver issue. Reinstall without choosing any graphic card drive.
Nuifrkns
Also boot in verbose mode (hit F8 as soon as the Darwin Bootloader starts, then type -v and press enter) so you can see whats going on 'behind the grey logo'.
