Shuttle's new Linux PC could be an awesome OSX box as it's using a 945GC chipset.

It'll have an Intel Celeron processor, a 945GC chipset, 512MB of memory and either a 60GB or 80GB hard drive. What it won't have: an optical drive or a PCI Express slot. Despite that, it's a pretty good-looking box, and comes in red, blue, white, and black, each with a different icon stamped on the front.

And get this... there'll also be a $99 barebones box! Shame on the lack of PCI Express, though.

The barebones version sounds pretty interesting:

Shuttle also says there will be a $99 barebones version of the KPC. That version will have the option of upgrading to a Core2Duo processor and 1GB of memory.

Thus powerful enough for most operating systems (except for Vista, of course :( )

It is not quite clear if and how you could add an optical drive.

I am thinking maybe externel via USB, FireWire, or even SATA...

I mean, what kind of computer does not have atleast one external USB port?

Barebones + Core 2 + RAM + USB CD + ubuntu gusty gibbon / Tiger = WIN!

That does sound sweet to me. Except for one little change (noted above in InorganicMatter's modified quote).

Just a matter of preference, thats all...

Does the 945GC support Core Duo 2? This will make this PC a kick ass machine for Leopard :thumbsup_anim:

edit: it appear that support Core Duo 2, that mean that if you want to buy it to make a hackintosh make sure you buy a core duo 2, Leopard will run like a charm in it but the graphics card sucks!
