Andrea3000 Posted January 8, 2008 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Hi to all, I'm going to by a new pc that will be equipped with leopard (I'll install it from the retail dvd because i think that is the cleanest way, right?) I'm looking for the most compatible motherboard socket 775 (with medium-high performance) that allow me to install leopard without nearly any patches, that boot, reboot, shut down and sleep without any problem and that gives me full 5.1 audio support (that is very important to me). I have already read all the hardware compatibility list but the audio 5.1 support isn't specified and i would like to have your opinion. Thanks and sorry for my english! Go with iATKOS or Kalyway release. I found a guide on how to install retail dvd and it doesn't seem to be so hard (even if I haven't any code experience)...am I missing something? So do you think that bad axe has 5.1 analog audio on leopard? The P5W is not ok for me because, due to my speakers, I need analog audio output, not optical Thanks to all! From what I read in this forum it seems that a lot of people have problem on having the 5.1 support....they can only obtain the 2.1...isn't it? Most of us who've have this board have had sound for quite awhile. The only thing not working (as in most cases) is mic in. Make sure you browse the codec repository. Then find a workable board with that controller. For the record, I built a great Leo box with an off-the-shelf HP machine from Circuit City (see sig). It has ALC888S controller that when patched gives me 7.1 and S/PDIF I/O (I use the S/PDIF). The only thing that doesn't work is the onboard NIC, but Ethernet is an easy substitute. Just plan ahead.
