I am using a DFI Infinity 975x with a Core 2 Duo e6600 and a ATI x1900xtx. With the Kalyway 10.5.1 I have 100% functionality. I didn't have to download any drivers or tweak any files. Everything worked by default. I installed World of Warcraft and was gaming right afterwards.

thanks for the input. Much appreciated. Just wondering if theres another motherboard out there someone would reccommend, the DFI Infinity 975x didnt seem to get superb reviews. Can anybody suggest a compatible awesome motherboard. Thanks guys.

I don't know about reviews but with a newer bios revision it does overclock like mad. And it's probably the most stable board i've ever owned.

Is there any particular features you are looking for that it lacks? For the 975x chipset you won't find a better performing board.

Another option is the Asus P5W DH deluxe. Also a 975x chipset. More features than the DFI but the performance is about the same. Both are a tad bit better than the Intel bad axe 2 in terms of performance.

But most importantly they work out of the box with the kalyway DVD.

How about search around the forum? Specifically "Buying thoughts and reccommendations"

That DFI Infinity looks awesome! It works very very easily with Mac OS X too. I'm jealous.

but if you must have the latests and greates, how about a P35 based board like the Gigabyte P35-DS3 or DS6Q or whatever, and an 8800GT, and a quad-core cpu? They support the new 45nm chips too. They're not so super easy to setup with OS X though, I must warn you. (but work perfectly once you have)

actually the DFI Infinity does look awesome! I think I was just on the wrong site. Yea this set up definitely looks great for mac os x. How is he performance of the core duo archer?

The Core 2 Duo works very well. And the e6600 was the additional cache on it which is why I choose it. But for $50 more you can get the same speed, 2.4ghz, in a quad core.

I would also recommend going with lower voltage ram. 1.8v or 1.9v, these 975x boards seem to like that better. I had problems with higher voltage OCZ ram on this board but then got some Corsiar PC6400 XMS that works great.

So any mobo with a northbridge P35 should be compatable?

^ I was thinking of that one, I like the extra USB ports they added from removing the parallel/serial ports.

You'll have more issues getting that board running over the 975x chipset. I'm not sure that the performance of the P35 chipset is anything to write home about.

And you can have 8 USB ports on any board. They come with USB headers on the board itself, on the bottom, you plug in an adapter and it installs where your cards would go. You get USB 2.0 off of the headers. The boards should come with those adapters.

I have 8 USB ports in the back of my computer with the DFI board. And between those and the 4 USB port hub on my monitor i'm using all of them.

hi try GA-P35-DS4 just requier a minor patch and works 100%

and is supports 45n CPUs

i've got GF8600GT who works 100% with 10.5.2 kext and NVinject

and a E6550 c2d 2,33GHz with 1333FSB and 2 GB DDR2667 DChnl

plus a xilence 800W ATX2.2 Gaming Edition olny for 560€

i'll recomend this config

if you need drivers just send me e msg with your e-mail and i'll send you all drivers and efi files

Will an admin please move this to the OSx86 Instalation fourm where it belongs

thank you

ok so im thinking im going to buy something like archers setup. Except with a quad core. Would the quad core still be as compatible? And what about cooling, any suggestions for that? Thanks for the help guys :D

The quad core will work fine.

As for cooling, I find the stock CPU fan works quite well for Intels new processors. My system is water cooled though. I just got the parts so long ago I have been using them since. But if I didn't already have them I wouldn't have bought them just to cool my C2D system.

water cooling! sounds pretty good, i might get that. as for fans, what do you recommend? ive been looking at intel quad core cpus on newegg heres a couple

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Intel Xeon X3220

both of these are under 300 dollars, the first looks promising

Again thanks for the help

You want the Q6600.

For watercooling I put together my own parts from dangerden.com

They make the best water blocks out there.

great the Q66 it is then. Thanks a bunch man. Youve been a ton of help :)ok one last question. Would a dual core be a better choice though. Some people said equally priced dual core processors could out preform the q66 in games.

I don't know. The q6600 is basically 2 e6600 core2duo's packaged together. So I don't know if that would make a difference. The price difference between the e6600 and the q6600 on newegg is about $50 or so. And there is at least one game out that can use a quad core(supreme commander). Multi core is the future so my pick would be a quad core.

I wouldn't think there would be a loss of performance going to the quad core. But i'll leave that to you to research.
