Are you the same Think Mark that is attempting to run that "iNerd forums"?

Shouldn't a forum admin know where the root directory is? lol :)

Just to help you out, you need to create a "root directory". In Macintosh HD, or whatever your hard drive's name is, create a folder named "root". :)

Yeh, and the key word in your quote is "Attempting.." and iNerd Tech Forum is FAILING!!!

so i create a file in Macintosh HDD, called Root? do i have to put any specific files in there?

Think Mark

Once i get this down, i can do almost anything with my iHack

:D

I have never had any use for a "Root" directory until now. Being an active windows user, i have never had to create one.

I don't understand about where to put this. Could sombody point me in the right direction?

Think about it as the equivalent of "My Computer"

You have all the drives and everything else ... Windows packs under it right?

Root is a more well-defined notion. Everything under *nix (Mac has its roots in Unix as well) is a file ...

Files are stored in a File System ... Think of it as C:\ in a Windows System which has only one drive.

in Mac - the root directory is "/" everything else is stored in it (under it - as the purists would like to have it said) - btw, you never need to "Create one" unless you are installing the system - and in Mac OS, you never need to create it, cause the Installer does it for you. If you are installing Linux however you need to designate one partition as "/" where all the files would be stored :-) hope this helps ...

All the best with your iNerd Site ... and a happy new year

Being a window user doesn't excuse you for not knowing "root directory" as all storage device has a root directory (from mighty PC to pen drive to anything that has storage capacities such as PSP or MP3 player... ). Imagine file system like a tree, and root directory is the bottom level of that tree where all other files and folders branch off that root. Being a geek (or nerd) has increasingly become a fashion nowadays.

Ok...... whatever floats your boat...##[]Think Mark

\ is actually the correct syntax for root directory in window. In unix command, you float your boat with ~
