S.SubZero
On iATKOS, I installed the "Broadcom 440x" driver they put in the install. For some reason, OS X will randomly just lose the network. I still have my IP, but I can't communicate with anything, not even my router. It loves to do this during bittorrents, while copying files across the LAN, or while loading web pages. I can't find a clear pattern to it. It is very annoying though, and sems to happen faster when doing heavy traffic. A reboot clears it until the next time. Anyone seen anything like this? I have XP64 on a separate hard drive for this laptop and that never has a problem no matter how much I stress the network chipset.
devilhood
I also get this problem. It has existed since the release of 10.4.8, where-by we were forced to use the 10.4.6 IONetworkFamily.kext to fix the cut-outs. The problem is the fact that the old AppleBCM440XEthernet.kext was designed for an older IONetworkFamily.kext. No one seems to know exactly what is causing the random cut-out with the new IONetworkFamily.kext, which is a big shame. I mostly use my Wireless card anyways, so this isn't a big problem for me, and I can't use the 10.4.6 IONetworkFamily.kext on Leopard because it seems to completely disable my Wireless card. Dense
I am not getting this problem with mine. I however do not replace the IONetworking extensions, I just add the BCM to the PlugIns directory. I have tossed huges amounts of data across this without problems.
skyy99
I am not getting this problem with mine. I however do not replace the IONetworking extensions, I just add the BCM to the PlugIns directory. I have tossed huges amounts of data across this without problems. I too am having problems with the BCM440 on my Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop. I installed with iAtkos + Equate1 + BadBios and included the Broadcom 440x driver. This puts it in the /System/Library/Extensions folder (but does not add the BCM to the plugins dir in the IONetworking..kext). The system recognizes eth0 and I can use it, but it's unreliable. Whenever I have a large transfer over the network (i.e. via afp), it crashes my AppleFileServer process. I have found that changing the ethernet settings from automatic to custom and selecting half-duplex seems to solve the crashing problem. But this is too slow to stream movies across the network unfortunately. @Dense, How is it that you not seeing the same results? I've looked for older versions of the BCM, but they're all the same as what iAtkos installed (according to diff). I even tried adding the BC to the IONetworking...kext plugins directory, to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. I'm going to have to abandon this project if I cannot get the network working reliably. Thanks, Matt
