Hi cdummy,

I am having the same problem with about this mac causing the finder to restart. My system profiler works though... Did you ever find a solution to this problem? If so could you share?

I have tried to repair permissions both booted from the drive and from the install cd but to no avail.

My setup is very similar to yours, same motherboard, celeron D, WD 80GB ide drive, onboard audio, video and sound...

Thanks for the help

I'm still looking. Everything else is working. System profiler too. So I'm not worrying to much. But I'm still looking and asking.

Same here. Just installed 10.5.1 (Kalyway) and went to About This Mac to hit up System Profile for my QE/CI results and boom - it crashed. You can get to Profile in Spotlight but About This mac is surely toast and the old fixes that I used on 10.4.8 and again on 10.4.11 don't work.

I will keep searching as well... and I'll let you know if I find anything.

Did you get sleep working? Mine doesn't. I can only wake the system by hitting the power button, then after about 5 seconds the whole thing goes back to sleep and I have to do a hard reboot to get it back...

About this mac was always crashing on me. I updated my bios (which included a microcode update) and now all is well. :) Maybe that fixed it?

edit: Somewhere on the forum it stated you have to disable max cpuID limit in the bios, that happened in my default settings and that may have helped too...

Hi,

This "Max CPU ID limit" is responsible for telling the system some CPU features. In addition, I got familiar with the "Report CPU Features for Legacy OS" BIOS feature. With having it enabled, I had a "Intel Core Solo" in the "About this Mac" window and a crash everytime I started the System Profiler. After disabling it everything worked fine and I got my "Intel Core Duo" back.

Albeit the Activity monitor showed two processor windows and the speed was normal in this "Core Solo" mode.

Best, JL
