Orea
So - I've been using my MacBook Pro since the day i got and i've never really used x86 since. Today, i thought it would be really nice to have a go at COD2, you know - with it being Christmas and having family round, it can get really boring. So, i got my old machine out. Specs: P4 - 2.93GHZ < stock cooling > 1GB DDR2 - 266MHz PNY Tech - Nvidia FX5500 160GB Seagate HD XP Pro SP2 A some puckered bell case, because i couldn't afford a good NEW one. I started it up, seems pretty perky i installed COD2 on it, WOW - the worst machine. ever. fact. I played on it ages ago, it seemed nice. not today. - i opened it up, and got rid of the bunnies, still craptaco. i looked at the temps. it was idling on 64*c. wtf. So - I'm kinda annoyed that it wasn't working correctly. The fx5500 i know for a fact is old school. Buts its capable of running COD2Its sitting here on the BIOS, iddling at 64*c. I've decided that I'm going to build a new gaming/x86 box. What's the most compatible Game Card and Motherboard thats out there, that will run ace with Leopard? I'm thinking a simple Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 as the processor, just i have no idea bout the gfx & mb. Cheers. Frag. socal swimmer
My recommendation: GA P35-DS3P ($150)- great for overclocking, support for 45nm, cheap, lots of ports, fully compatible e6750 ($190)- best performance/price of any Core 2 Duo pretty much, very overclockable good CPU cooler (maybe Zalman, about $60?) 8800 GT ($250)- now compatible (wih 10.5.2), amazing performance for the price Antec Sonata III (100)- 500W power supply included, lots of bays, quiet, looks good Sony NEC Optiarc 18X DVD±R DVD Burner ($30)- burns Dual Layer, cheap, good $780, plus monitor, windows, and leopard. that would be amazing. Crysis!! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77605-motherboards-that-a-fully-more-or-less-compatible-with-leopard/#findComment-549138 Share on other sites

kramer2k
I too am in the hunt for a new system...My shopping list so far... 2GB Corsair XMS2 4-4-4-12 - $35 7900 GS PCI-e - $70 As far as processor / motherboard, it would be great if I lived near a Fry's...(they've had e4500 + ECS 945GCT-M for 119!), so I'm instead thinking about a 2180 ($80-ish) and GA 945GCMX (under $50 hopefully). But the only place I've found the mobo (for a decent price) is flea-bay... So a pretty kick-a$$ OSX / windows system for $235!! All funded by the future sale of my current setup!
