Did you do Kalyway's update? If not you should have used Netkas' update procedure! It would have advised you which kexts to backup so that these errors don't occur!

One of which would have been your AppleAHCIPort.kext is why the new one is giving you the "waiting for root device" error!

The old one has you device ID in and you either have to put it back or edit the existing on somehow!? Then you also need the old ACPIP kext to get things going!

Other you will need are your old injectors for audio video and anything else that was unique to your system!

Good luck

StiCMAN

When I tried to apply the Kallyway 10.5.3 in reboot I had several errors on screen and waiting on root over and over.

It also hosed my MBR for VISTA. I spent an hour rebuilfing that thing.

Looks like you missed the:

"now u can recover ur applesmbios/applehda/etc (didn;’t u forget to make backups b4 running update ?)" :) x50

SticMAN

Thanks for that, will try again...

The NETKAS procedure just say you made a back of applesmbios, applehda, etc. Doesn't actually mention the others.

Maybe this will help!?

This is the layout of a post install patcher:

# Remove incompatible vanilla kexts

sudo rm -r /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/AppleEFIRuntime.kext

sudo rm -r /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/AppleHWSensor.kext

sudo rm -r /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext

# Install kexts

sudo cp -r kext/AppleAHCIPort.kext /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/

sudo cp -r kext/IOAHCIFamily.kext /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/

sudo cp -r kext/IOATAFamily.kext /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/

sudo cp -r kext/AppleSMBIOS.kext /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/

sudo cp -r kext/AppleHDA.kext /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/

sudo cp -r kext/dsmos.kext /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/

sudo cp -r kext/AppleACPIPlatform.kext /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/

sudo cp -r kext/ApplePS2Controller.kext /Volumes/SnowOSX/System/Library/Extensions/

# Repair permissions

sudo diskutil repairpermissions /Volumes/SnowOSX/

If you look at the install kexts, they are normally the ones you need to backup just incase!

AND

Any injectors, like ALCInject, NVInject, NVKush, Natit, com.apple.Boot.plist or whatever you use to get your cards working?!

So its just those few I need?

hello,

I've got actually a macmini (G4), et bored with its low power, I'm near to buy a XPS420 (good warranty, low price, and decent graphics :D).

In France we don't have option for choosing the great Q9450, only the cheaper Q9300, so it'll be. For the sound car issue, did you found something with the IRC guy, or I've to pick the XiFi sound card ? I've also planned to get a single 750Gb HDD, but I want to keep a windows partition for gaming (XP or Vista ?). I don't care about storing data, I just want a fast drive. Is it better to pick two (noRAID) HDD or to partition one big, for dual booting XP/OS X ?

thx for your advices, et sorry for the poor language ;)

Well here is where I stand.

If I use Headrushe's way then it works until reboot.

Sticman's method doesn't work at all.

The codec dump Sticman supplied seems to be pretty much the same as the one I supplied except for the Subsystem ID and Address values are different. I tried his dump and although sound worked, I lost digital output. (although I don't use it)

I believe his is based on a dump on his XPS 410. Although they are similar, there seem to be differences. Mine was created with a linux codec dump on a XPS 420.

If its too much of a hassle and you reboot a lot, you can pick up USB sound dongles on ebay for less than $5 and they work in OS X fine.

Hi I'm hoping someone might be able to help me figure out what I'm missing. I have a XPS 420 as well and I've installed OSX 10.5.5 to a USB Hard Drive and it works fine, I've managed to get most everything working, but I noticed that I don't have any of my SATA drives(HDD, DVD/CD) when I boot with RAID Mode on. When I boot with Raid Mode set to Auto/ATA, I have my SATA drives and it works(but windows won't boot up.) From what I understand using the Auto/ATA mode is IDE whereas using the Raid Mode on is AHCI right? I'd really like a point in the right direction to get my AHCI working properly. I'll explain how I set everything up:

1. I booted iDeneb 10.5.5 from my DVD drive.

2. I formatted my USB HDD using a GUID partition.

3. I selected ICHx Fixed under the Chipset options.

4. I didn't select any Audio, Ethernet or Video options.

5. After the installation, I booted into safe mode with -v -x.

6. I installed the kext for my ATI 3870, as the ones that installed with iDeneb didn't work.

7. My wireless card worked with the Vanilla Kernel.

8. I patched my Audio using the AppleHDAPatcher(1.2 and 1.16... I have restart issue)

Everything is working really well(minus the 9227 audio problem and my missing SATA drives).

Does anyone have an ideas of why my drives aren't showing up? I checked and I have the following kexts:

AppleAHCIPort.kext

IOAHCIFamily.kext

IOATAFamily.kext

I know people have both modes working. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Ennova

P.S. Here are my specs:

Dell XPS 420

CPU: Q9450 (2.66ghz all cores working)

Ram: 4x1GB (800mhz)

GPU: ATI3870

HDD: 750GB(Vista) External USB 120GB(OSX).

Guys,

I need your help. I am depressed with my bad luck. Before I tried Inspiron 530, 530s, no go, then I came across the XPS 420 OSX (iAtkos 4i) video on youTube and it seemed so easy, I even used Fred's settings there.

My refurb 420 has q6600, 2 GB memory and ATI Radeon HD 3870 card. It came with HD on SATA 0 and SATA DVD on SATA 1 channel. Setting was Sata RAID.

I tried iDeneb, Leo4all v3 and iAtkos 5i (my main target). With the latter I tried both EFI v9 and Chameleon setting, while alternating BIOS to either "SATA Raid" or "Autodetect-ATA". No go. My most frequent problem is "waiting for root device".

Example of settings:

iAtkos Main

EFI v9 or Chameleon

Apple Decrypter

stock or sleep mod Kernel

ACPI (yes or no)

Disabler

SMBIOS EFI-enabler

Intel AHCI SATA (when BIOS on Raid) or the other non SATA when BIOS in Autodetect-ATA

Somehow I feel that the problem is that the system is not seeing the boot drive and it is possibly something related to SATA setting

I read here on forum that one guy had to put HD on first SATA chanel and DVD-ROM on second channel, but this formulation is not clear whether he meant SATA ) and SATA 1 or SATA 1 and SATA 2...

I am close to give up on 10.5.5 and try Kalyway the people used for XPS 420.

Verbose message attached.

Hey Whats Up AppleBender

I Had The Same Problem On The iATKOS 5i Install,

The Solution Is To Reset The BIOS To Default And Turn Off RAID ON - Set It To Auto/ATA

Let Me Know If It Works?

I have already tried the Autodetect/ATA setting in BIOS without success. I will try again later today.

I need to find out what do you mean by "reset the BIOS". Is this an option in BIOS like going to "factory default" or is this some hardware button on the motherboard ?

A list of all settings in install of iAtkos 5i or Kalyway 10.5.2. would be helpful. I have already tried the Kalyway 10.5.2. most people used on XPS 420 and again, failure.

Could the position on SATA channels of the HD and DVD be of importance ? Dell manual speaks SATA 0 and SATA 1 to be for HDs and the higher number SATAs for optical drives.

Also of interest is ChopperBoy's need to use EasyBCD to get it going:

"I Installed Kalyway on my second drive using Vanilla kernel, NVInject, Timemachine fix, no Lan Drivers or Sound Drivers and assorted optional programs ont he disk. Rebooted and low and behold I could not get into OS X I had forgottent to get a boot loader so back to windows I go and installed EasyBCD and set my boot loader to recognize the HFS+ boot drive. Rebooted and went straight to the OSX Desktop with NO Sound."

It's fun - for the first time, I have "something". This is what happened.

I reset the BIOS. I noted that that made all SATA channels ON.

I switched off Audio and NIC.

I started from iAtkos 5i, did not format the HD again but at least repaired the disk (was O.K.) and permissions (there were several..)

Settings were like you suggested:

I thought I have the setting on Autodetect/ATA but it is possible that during installation it was SATA (as I discovered the setting to be later on reboot).

Before first boot in OSX, I went again to the DVD and from there repaired permissions (a long list of repairs or discoveries)

Then I rebooted to the OSX HD in verbose mode.

There was some yellow text of problems (didn't I see yellow only in iDeneb distro??) pertaining to com.orByte.driverPCGenUSBEHCI.

I got the feeling that maybe I don't have the Autodetect/ATA ON, so went to BIOS and set it so. Reboot and I saw the SUCCESS.

But, the desktop pic has iDeneb on it ?!?

In Applications, I have folders KOOLSOFT and iDeneb App ????

So what I have - a hybrid between iAtkos and iDeneb ? Some effect of previous iDeneb install attempts ? Maybe became active by the repaired permissions ?

Also, there is no iDVD - my main reason to try Hackintosh for HD video work.

In the About, the processor (a Quad 2.4) is reported as 4.3 GHz. Lot of info is missing in Profile. I have add-on Rosewill Ethernet card with a Realtek chip. I am trying to understand why I am not getting Ethernet access to Internet. I put in Manual data in the connection panel but still no connection. In Profile, I am trying to distinct, whether I can see the on-board or add-on adapter's MAC address.

So at least something, system is ZIPPY, but why I have the iAtkos/iDeneb chimera and I need the ethernet get going.

Sleep and reboot not tested yet.

Which Torrent Did You Download? Is It The 10.5.5 Leopard Version?

I got the iAtkos 5i from "small nova". The size is smaller than other distros (2.6 GB). I checked the md5 checksum and it fits.

I am 99.9% certain that I had the iAtkos DVD in the drive when I followed your instruction. In any case, I have a working OSX now but it has parts from iDeneb ?

Is there a way I can interrogate the PC what distro I have actually working now ? I will get another HD and will try the iAtkos install on it again.

I stepped out and the PC fell to sleep. I could not bring it back by clicking the keyboard or mouse. A short click on the Power button brought back just mini bricks pixelated display, so I rebooted and everything is fine. Even the NIC now works via the add-on card :-)

I scored another XPS420 (which BTW was discontinued by Dell) at Dell Outlet with a 15% off coupon for $444 shipped. It has Q6600 Quad processor.

Here is my experience with another install, this time with an nVidia 8500GT card (installed with SATA RAID ON in Bios):

Graphics: in the nVidia section, after experimenting, this combo worked: NVKush+Natit+Titan+EFIs for 8500

SATA/IDE > Intel AHCI SATA

NTFS-3G

As usual, the onboard audio and Ethernet does not work. I got $ 2.50 USB audio/mic adapter from ebay and Asus WL-138G v2 wireless LAN PCI adapter to have those functions. The video output is VGA analog only (something peculiar to this card I read) to a 24" screen but quality wise, it is perfect

This install works for sleep (S3), but at times, I need to awake the PC by pushing the "checkmark" button beside the side LCD window first and then touch the mouse. Shut off and restart works.

The original instal with the ATI 3870HD card:

has problems with sleep, the video comes back garbled to a very fine checkerboard pattern, so I set that computer to no sleep, automatic ON/OFF daily and sleep the screen in 10 min.

The video card is noisy to my sensitive ears so I am thinking about Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 v2 passive cooling card, albeit not certain whether it would fit the case.

Upgrade ? Despite my install settings are as recommended for the upgrade-able systems, my one attempt with the Combo updater failed so I lost interest and using it at 10.5.5.
