wahwahman89
Hi everyone, I have been around here for a long time now... Using a (now old) Athlon 64 3700+ and a 6800GT, OSx86 ran fine... but its time for an upgrade! I'm looking at the Quad Core Q6600 chip from Intel . Struggling to find a good board for it though - anyone got any suggestions? Also, I'd like to plug into it either an NVidia 7950GT into it or a couple of cheaper SLI/CrossFires - anyone know if this would work under Leopard (even Tiger if I must, but Leopard is preferred). I am also looking to stick with AMD, however the benefits of PC_EFI are blatant and I would like to harness them. Please people, give me some suggestions, if you know it works, I'll be extremely grateful! ddd123
I heard good things about the Intel Bad Axe 2 motherboard. Look into that one. Korrupted
Intel Bad Axe 2 or some sort of P35 chipset(Gigabyte P35C-DS3X or Asus p5k) are the best chipsets in my opinion. They both require minimal patching and can run the vanilla kernel. wahwahman89
Thanks a lot for your reply guys... Does anyone know, if I got the P35 chipset motherboard, would there be any chance of getting SATA (important - preferably with RAID) working as well as full Quad core support? Another thing I would like is multi-channel out. Any chance of support for this now? Or in the future? Thanks a lot guys, you're solving a lot of my problems out! strangedaze
Go with the DFI Blood Iron or Abit P35-E. For video card I would go with the 7900gs if moneys a budget if not the 8800gtx or 8800gts would be better. Also I would wait on buying that Quad, in the begginning of January 08 the new quads are coming out which are better energy conservative, less hott, faster but the badaxe2 won't support these. Also crossfire and SLI does not work. ~pcwiz
The Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3x series works well and SATA works, but RAID doesn't work Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77134-need-advice-on-newest-hackintosh/#findComment-546348 Share on other sites
wahwahman89
Thanks again guys! @ strangedaze - as for the new Quads... will they be a hell of a lot more expensive? Or are the higher (I think Q6800?) spec current Quad processors going to go down in price significantly? Thanks and sorry for being a pain P35-E on the shopping list as well as a 7900... now just need to figure out a processor and RAID support... does anyone know of any mid/hi quality sound cards that work with Hacks? wahwahman89 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77134-need-advice-on-newest-hackintosh/#findComment-547255 Share on other sites
sarahbau
Most likely they will be around the same price, and current ones will be discontinued, and only remaining stock sold. That's what happened with the last update.
