mdg
6 straight weeks of trying to install 10.5.x...wife about to divorce me, kids about to leave me... Here's what I have: I have 10.4.10 working (have for a long time) I have a MacBook Pro with Leo (I have a retail Leo iso). I have more hardware than you can possibly imagine.... I have a P5K Asus...which install instructions on this board are the easiest to follow?? And will yield a working installation?? I also have 2 different 4 Gb USB sticks, 3 different 500 Gb HD drives, 3 different video cards (7900 GS, 2600 XT, 8800 GTS), etc... There are dozens and dozens of install guides here...none of which are clear enough for me to make work, OR...I'm looking at the wrong one... I think I have tried every combination...I typically make it 90% of the way, but miss one step yet no one seems to post direct anwers to direct questions. I need GUID, 10.5.1 end product (after install)...can someone help?? I've been a donator to these boards for quite some time, because I want to support what is going on here, I just don't understand why the 1,000's of people posting here that supposedly have 10.5.x working can't take a few moments out to help me out?? Sorry, a bit frustrated.... Thanks, /mdg. zarac
in your place i would try the flat image install version. it eliminates all the patching steps and "installs" (or rather copies) osx on your partition from within windows. if you already have tiger installed then it will be easier to fix booting problems (replacing kexts and kernels for leo from tiger install) as you will still be able to boot it. i know it's a pain to dl a few more gigs, but it's worth it. i tried all the install methods (brazilmac, ToH, flat image, upgrade.. you name it) and was successful with all of them, but flat image install is BY FAR the most laid back method of them all. EDIT: oops, i just read your post again and came across the word GUID in there. sorry but flat image works only for MBR partition map. here's a nice guide for GUID install (with pics) EDIT2: another GUID install guide (also with pics) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76508-please-dont-get-madbut-i-really-need-som-help-with-leo-install/#findComment-540097 Share on other sites
Ongeloof
Try VMware, it easy to follow, and i could walk you through it. god know i have probz done it more times than PCwiz lol. Install leopard normally... ... or.... You can then continue to install leopard or tiger I don't have problems getting a GUID format and I don't have problems with making EFI disk bootable (I get that...have done it, and have the disk active/bootable). ...it's the Install Leopard normally bit where I get things messed up....I have ToH and I have patched Brazilmac and I have Retail Apple Leopard (I bought it)....UI also own real Macs with Leopard installed...so, I need an install method that's without bugs (the "ooopppss this doesn't really work" in message 297 of a 350 message post) that I can "Install Leopard normally". Can you help? Thanks in advance.... /mdg. KlyX
Hi mdg The first guide, which is linked above, the one from JamesD is working. I tried it several times, checked it twice, it's working. So where is the problem with installing Leopard normal? With JamesD guide, you just install EFI as he wrote, then reboot on the ToH Disc and install. BUT (I think, he forgot this one): After installation, it could be, that you have to replace the kernel. That's what I had to do. see also here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=76288 Greetings KlyX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76508-please-dont-get-madbut-i-really-need-som-help-with-leo-install/#findComment-540153 Share on other sites

I think I'm getting close...can you help me get over the hump? Thanks, /mdg. Megamixman
Telling us you got a kernel panic is useless. WHAT KERNEL PANIC? Boot into verbose and figure out whats throwing the panic. This is basic debugging and logic, people will not hold your hand through every step. You need to learn to at least identify the problem, before someone can help you. BTW. Being a donor doesn't mean anyone is obligated to help you. ~pcwiz
Try VMware, it easy to follow, and i could walk you through it. god know i have probz done it more times than PCwiz lol. Bet you haven't I've done it gazillions of times with lots of failures, etc. and it took me forever to write my guide to work universally. And once I build a new hackintosh I'll be going crazy with VMware, testing 10.4.11 all the way up to 10.5.1 plus EFI, etc. But nice to see another VMware lover in the community Think Mark :) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76508-please-dont-get-madbut-i-really-need-som-help-with-leo-install/#findComment-540305 Share on other sites
