tuukka H
[edit]Sorry, this was already brought up on page 2 of this thread (post #35 for those looking for it). [/edit] BIOS update clarification? My board is D975XBX2 and it has a bios version that begins with "BX97520J.86A". The version that the guide says to install is for the D975XBX board and bios version that begins with "BX97510J.86A". Should I still install the 10J version or should I install the latest 20J version? You should install the latest bios version. Leoopardoo
Yeah, I live by SuperDuper so I'm truly relieved to see it released for Leopard! And super excited to learn that it works on Hackintosh! Here is my progress tonight: UUID Error: I have been attempting to get Software RAID sets to act as boot drives. The first problem I ran into is that I got UUID Error 35 when SuperDuper tried to erase my OS X RAID set before cloning to it. Stella hooked me up with a custom plist to get rid of the UUID error (also fixes Time Machine/Ethernet but only for EFI 8 users!); here's a Zip: http://rapidshare.com/files/89780723/UUIDfixer.zip.html That file is for EFI 8.0 users ONLY! Do NOT use it on EFI 5.2! My EFI 8.0 guide is not ready for release yet for various reasons including bugs, so go with BJMoose's guide if you need EFI 8.0 for now. Software RAID: With the UUID problem solved, now I could get to work copying. The cloning worked perfectly; however, it would not boot. The drives were not even recognized. Next I tried SoftRAID, a third-party OS X software RAID driver: http://www.softraid.com/ That gave me an error on boot about not finding the boot plist. So - my initial report is that Software RAID sets configured as Boot Drives do NOT work. This report is based on a couple quick test runs, that's all. I'm not saying it can't be done, in fact K.I.S.S. has his own thread on this and seems to have gotten it working: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=85943 I'd like to know for sure whether or not it works but I'm not sure how deep I want to dig with all the other projects on my plate right now. I'm not sure how Software RAID disk management would work when a hard drive dies either. So there's my preliminary report and I'm leaving it at that right now - if anyone else wants to run with it, they're more than welcome to. Hardware RAID: So what we now for sure right now is: (1) SuperDuper works flawlessly for cloning Hackintosh installations on the BA2 (2) It IS possible to clone to a Hardware RAID set and boot from that RAID set. Many thanks to theotherone for his guide (posted here and separately) and for laying the ground work on this! I am using a sub-$30 2-port PCIe SATA RAID card from Newegg (Rosewill with SI3132 chip from Silicon Image) and it works flawlessly in my BA2 Hackintosh both as a secondary RAID drive set and as a boot RAID drive set. I haven't gotten RAID 0 working yet (only RAID 1 so far) so I'll report back with some Xbench scores on the RAID 0 if/when I get it working. I need to update my firmware and drivers first. Back to finalizing Rev. 2 documentation Thanks, worked for me. Finally I got rid of various UUID error messages in terminal Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76014-guide-software-complete-intel-bad-axe-2-walkthrough-with-software/page/21/#findComment-615315 Share on other sites
cable909
Hey Everyone, First off, thanks weaksauce! I'm typing this from a Q6600 with 8 gb of RAM and 4x320GB harddrives running os/x following your guide. Its blazingly fast (and I haven't overclcoked yet.) The only thing im having some issues with is bluetooth on the dlink dbt-120. I'm experiencing intermittent disconnects of my apple bluetooth keyboard (the white one.) This isn't too bad, happens like once or twice a day. My bluetooth mightymouse, however, is practically unusable. I generally need to power down the whole box, take the batteries out of the mightymouse and bring the whole thing back up for it to work again. I google'd a bit and the issue seems to be 10.5.1 related, but I was curious if anyone here was using a different bluetooth adapter with better results. Additionally, bluetooth on the dbt-120 seems sluggish compared to my MBP. Anyway, would appreciate it if anyone could recommend an alternative adaptor (or other solution.) And once again, thank you weaksauce Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76014-guide-software-complete-intel-bad-axe-2-walkthrough-with-software/page/21/#findComment-615539 Share on other sites

And once again, thank you weaksauce My wife has the D-Link/White Apple Keyboard setup and it is perfect for her. The only disconnects she gets is when she wakes from sleep, it says 'keyboard disconnected' for a few seconds while it wakes up. My silver Apple bluetooth keyboard works fine as well off the D-Link. Strange! The thread now has over 500 replies and 30,000 views, whoohoo! I got RAID 0 working on my SI3132 card. You have to use the Silicon Image driver labeled SATARAID5, it's the second one on the list but it's also the newest. The easiest way to do it is like this: 1. Install the RAID driver for OS X and reboot 2. Press F4 to boot into the RAID card after post 3. Do a Low-level format on each drive and select 'Quick' - should only take a few seconds each 4. Create the RAID set (RAID 0 for striping and RAID 1 for mirroring) 5. Boot up normally (you may need to initialize the drive, after that you can format it with HFS) 6. Use SuperDuper to clone your boot drive to it (or just leave it as a secondary drive as desired) That's it, nothing special! onLIKEdk
Hi Guys, I just got all my parts in, put them together last night, and followed the Bad Axe 2 Hackintosh Guide. After everything installs, and I booted into Leopard for the first time (before copying the files from the USB stick) I get the nice blue OSX desktop color for a few seconds, then a black screen. The mouse cursor is there, and responds to mouse movement. I get a flickering, horizontal, bright blue line that follows the cursor. It seems like this is a graphics card problem, but I'm not sure how to fix it. Any suggestions? onLIKEdk
You might try the 10.5.2 kexts for video...so far every single 512mb card seems to have some sort of problem. Very strange! It's an honor to be speaking to the master I'm a long time computer junkie, but a complete beginner when it comes to linux. I was reading some posts about NVinject and it talked about having to remove certain kexts before you copy the new ones over. I'm not sure how to do this. Do you think that my problem is related to (or can be fixed by) NVinject stuff? And do you know any sites/guides that would walk me through the command line options, etc? Here's the sequence I see: Grey Apple screen with the loading circle Single frame of rainbow graphics puke on top of the grey (doesn't consume the entire screen, and it's a different spattering of lines/color every time) LCD (Dell 2407WFP) goes into power saving mode for a couple seconds Solid osx-blue screen (1-2 seconds) Then solid black. The cursor is in the upper left, but now it DOESN'T respond to anything. I think the first time was a fluke. I've rebooted several times now and every time it's locked up. No apple-tab, control-alt-del combos, nothing. P.S. Quick correction to the previous post... I DID copy some files off of the USB stick. In Part 3 of the guide, I typed everything out, and it all ran fine except for the IONetworkingFamily.kext steps, which returned pages and pages of permissions errors. Don't know if this is related to the graphics problem I'm having, but it's probably important anyway. Did you format your USB stick using HSF+? Try reinstalling but skip installing NVinject. It should boot to a default resolution. If you still get errors, maybe you have a bad video card - try installing Windows to see if it works under there. Quick thread update: 1. Going through my 5.2 rev2 install step-by-step to make sure the guide is perfect 2. Ordering another RAID card to test dual RAID cards in the system 3. Extensively testing SuperDuper/Time Machine combo for the Backup/Cloning Guide I've added SuperDuper to the rev2 zip package because of it's usefulness as a cloning and backup tool. I have an 8gb USB stick on the way to test out cloning to a memory stick and booting from there (my default EFI 8 install is around 7 gigs), so if that works it will be a good emergency boot drive for Leopard on the BA2. I'll post it sometime tomorrow once I finalize the guide PDFs. Basically the same as rev1, but more organized and the bugs tweaked out. This will be my last 5.2 revision, the next focus is working out EFI 8. In the interim, I'm going to be working on an Overclocking Guide, the Backup/Cloning guide, and a Dual-Booting/VM virtualization guide. I'll probably release those 3 before EFI 8.0 since I'm working with another (expert) scripter to get our BA2 boards setup for EFI 8. I'm not quite on the schedule I've been shooting for in this thread, but progress is progress and thanks to everyone's help we've ironed out the 5.2 install pretty well! Leoopardoo
Maybe this is not the correct forum topic... for my noob question, anyway The only issue I need to get resolved is error shown while repairing disk permission: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired. I've tried to repair disk partition using install boot DVD (while disk is unmounted and none of system processes were running). No luck.. I redid the install from the beginning, leaving out NVinject.kext in each terminal command, and it booted to the welcome screen just fine, albeit in 1024x768. Wireless worked right out of the box, updates ran flawlessly. I installed NVinject version 0.2.1 by copying the kext to the Extensions directory, then rebooted only to get that black screen / no screen at all (LCD panel turns off) when it reboots back to Leopard. I did some reading, my eVGA 7950GT 512MB needs to be reflashed. The NVinject site has the correct ROM file I need, but I can't figure out a way to actually flash the graphics card. My attempts to make a boot disc out of a USB hard drive have failed at every turn. Is there any way to use the Kalyway CD, or perhaps an Ubuntu LiveCD to do the ROM flash? I'm getting desperate here. My Leopard was working perfectly aside from being stuck in 1024x768. Also, will I have any issues using the graphics card in Windows after I flash it? WIGS
I am also having a tough time with setting up bluetooth keyboard and mouse. When I set them up it all works fine until I reboot the M/C then it is like I have to delete the device and run a search again as it doesn't work after booting up. Booted in windows and updated the latest bios. 2. I extracted the 10.4.9 IOFamilyNetworking.kext (find it attached to download here) 3. I copied it in System/Library/Extensions folder 4. Open Terminal sudo -s enter your password chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions 5. Open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions again to make sure 6. restart and voila. Logitech Cordless Elite over RF works with my BIOS. It's a few years old.. don't know if they still sell it. My MX Revolution mouse worked fine during the OS installation too. Update to my earlier post: My wireless works with no extra drivers/modifications required, but Airport needs to be turned off and on after coming out of sleep. The wireless icon next to the clock will say it's still connected, but there's no connectivity until i cycle the Airport. Then it works fine again. My sleep mode is a little wonky too. Not even sure if it's going into sleep, or just turning off the hard drives. The screen doesn't turn off or go black, but when I move the mouse after long inactivity, it takes about 15 seconds to become responsive again, and I hear the drives whir up. Gatorfreak
So close! I got to the end of the guide and upon booting up from the harddrive, I get the gray screen with the apple logo and the rotating wait icon. After 5 seconds or so the rotating icon stops changing and nothing changes after that. Is there a way to get details about what exactly it dies on? Other than starting the whole guide over again, I don't know what to try or how to diagnose anything (Mac n00b). Hardware: see signature Thanks for the help. *** Update *** I read the posts about formating the USB stick with a Mac and using MacDrive to copy the files to the USB stick. I tried that and redid Part 3 (Install files from USB stick). Same result of freezing during bootup. Would it make a difference to start the whole process over (rather than just having redone part 3)?
