Jm9760
Ok, I just installed Vista on a boot camp partition. I am running a macbook with 1gb of ram, but in Vista, it shows up as .992 ram. This prevents me from using aero glass, since it requires at least 1gb. Is there any way I can either make my memory show up as 1gb, or force Vista to allow aero glass? Thanks in advance. laddyboy
Sounds like your video card is taking up the difference. Boot into the bios and see if you can lower the amount of memory the video card is using. I don't know if you can do that with a mac and if you can't I'm sorry. I'm new to the mac game but on a windows PC that would be the solution. Hope this helps Ok, I just installed Vista on a boot camp partition. Jm9760
Ok, but if I figured out how to do that, lowering the memory that the video card is taking up would cause problems...right? If there is a trick to force vista to accept less than 1 gb, I would prefer that. Thanks for the reply, though. sarahbau
A quick Google search on how to get Aero Glass to run in under 1GB came up with a full page of results saying it's something you don't want to do. lol. Most said that 1GB isn't even really enough. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75714-1gb-of-ram-shows-up-as-992/#findComment-534704 Share on other sites
Jm9760
I searched a lot before this. Most of the pages describe how to force aero glass with inadequate video memory, not ram, and I really do have 1gb of ram, so its not like I am trying to run it with 512. SpeedfreaK
maybe you should use something like windows blinds and apply a vista aero theme Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75714-1gb-of-ram-shows-up-as-992/#findComment-535078 Share on other sites
Special-K
Better yet, install XP with an aero theme. Better and less frustrating than Vista. xplizid
buy a stick of ram and upgrade that puppy to 2gigs which is the minimum id have anyways. I was looking for some for my mbp and you can get 2gigs for 50bucks thats kingston and crucial not great ram quality wise but if it fails later on hey it was only 50 bucks right.
