cicciobellow
same here with a vaio VGN-N11S. And I had just the same with some kernel verions (e.g. semthex 8.8.1) under tiger. Other kernels (e.g. 8.9.1 by ToH) allows booting on battery, though sleep doesn't work. Under tiger JaS 8.4.1 allows (on 10.4.4) allows both booting from battery and sleep. Now Leopard. Vanilla kernel (Kalyway 10.5.1 install) allows sleeping but not booting on battery. It's really curios that Iatkos (r2) DVD boots fine on battery but the install from the very same DVD does not. ciao...c.

sarskild
I've got the same problem and the closest thing to a solution I had was to boot with idlehalt=0 ... Hope that helps a little bit?

abrasive8
Yep, same problem with my vaio as well. very curious. i can confirm that sarskild's method for battery boot works magnificently. thanks for the remedy! i dont boot without power often, but its excellent to know that its no longer an issue to be constrained by.
