I installed the ALC883Audio.mpkg found here... I used it to install my audio on Tiger and it worked perfectly, I recently upgraded to Leopard and it also worked. But since I installed it I can't shutdown 'cause after the system has almost completed shutdown I get a Kernel Panic message! I can restart without problems! I tried to repair permissions, reinstall kext but nothing! Does anyone have the same problem? Thanks

I used the exact same package (I think...it's named the same) using the 3-ports (non-digital) option on my system and it works fine.

I had the same problem. Changed kexts, kernels, deleted DSDT, created again, tried all AppleHDA patched for ALC883 and the same result kernel panic on shutdown. After a restart I saw the MyBook external disk plugged on the firewire didn't started. I had to try if is a connection between this external drive on FW and the shutdown kernel panics, so I disconnected the drive and shut down. Voila! The shutdown went ok. So, I think the problem is the AppleHPET.kext from 10.5.5, that allowing the firewire port and the 10.5.6 extensions (I dunno what of its).

Try unmount your external firewire drive and disconnect it (or shutdown it) before the shutdown.

So are you saying the solution is to turn off any FW drive before shutting down? I tried everything to solve it, but it seems that there is no software solution. At least not in my knowledge.
