Hi all,

I am using Dell D620 with a Intel Core Duo T2500 but i can only run with one core by disabling the other one at boot start.

I would love to see a solution to use both cores ? Is there realy no solution for this yet ?

I am getting bad benchmarks on xBench and GeekBench. I get around 1600 on GeekBench. I guess i should get much more.

It takes me 45 sec to start Final Cut. Have a friend where it takes around 22 sec on first start. Secondary start takes only 5 sec.

I takes me the same time as the start one 45 sec. I believe that not running the dual core slows the machine down.

Yeah, there's a solution. Dell can stop sucking and produce a BIOS that actually complies with the full AHCI spec.

Sorry to sound harsh, but that's the truth of the matter. I love Dell and my Latitude D820, but this game they're playing with their BIOS is simply unacceptable.

I don't know what problem you all are having here, but am running a Lattitude D630 and both cores work fine. Graphics, thats a whole nother headace. Didn't do anything special to get either cores working either.

I was under the impression that using the pc_efi patches from Netkas with the vanilla OS X kernel allowed dual-core operation on Dell systems.

It works for me as of right now on a Dell XPS M1730, showing two cores in Activity Monitor and as a Core 2 Duo in System Information. No stuttering, kernel panics on boot, etc. The install didn't come from any prepackaged installers, I merely copied over an install from my MacBook and pasted the EFI kernel loader on top of it, and came out with a working install after fidgeting with video drivers, etc.

Ups, I never see this thread before...

Harsh, o yeah, it is.

My Dell Laptop works with two cores fine with Tiger 10.4.10 and Leo 10.5 and 10.5.1

So, YES, Dell is producing BIOS that works with AHCI. So, NO, not all Dell laptops suffer that.

Life is harsh.
