Personally, I don't feel there is any perfect hackintosh, because it's a hatckintosh. Basically, I don't think of it as a perfect mac since it's not a mac.

I agree, even it is compatible is a hackintosh and is not going to be like a real macintosh computer.

Still, I don't know how successful they've been at OSX86, eg. X3100 isn't working on laptops...

I found the Acer 2480 and 3680 range to work great, if you can find them. Also something with NVidia 7300 or 7600 mobility

edit : found this thread on X3100 in laptops. Looks like it works for some, although previously it was working only on external displays. Check it out.

EDIT: here're the specs:

- Core 2 Duo T7100 @ 1800 MHz

- 2GB DDR2

- nVidia 8600M GT

- Mobile Intel® 965 Express chipset

- Realtek High Definition Audio :P (driver version 6.0.1.5413 in Vista)

- SATA 160 GB

I have this exact model.. and lots of questions ;)

I have a Core Duo powered Mini at work and I'm happy with it, but as a private laptop I could only afford this Acer. Hardware-wise it's really good value for money (at least it was when i got it), but Vista beats it down to a pulp... it drives me crazy. I run Gutsy on it too, but that has its bugs too, enough of them to make it unreliable for daily usage. My hope for the next couple of months is OSx86.. Trouble is it's kinda' difficult to install. It's the first time I ever try, I had only heard rumors about being able to run OS X on a PC before, but I never bothered to google it up before. Now I've downloaded uphuck_10.4.9_v1.4i_r2, installed it, and first time I tried to boot it showed some very nice error which I must admit I didn't write down because I thought I can always boot it again and see it. Unfortunately I got mac.nub OSx86 v1-r5 which is 10.4.10, and installed it over the first. This one seems to work more or less, but it gets stuck while booting, after figuring out the ACPI states, while it seems to be waiting for some device to wake up..

Now the graphics card is a nVidia 8600M GT and my question is will it work or not. I don't necessarily need acceleration from the beginning, I only want to have it running maybe as a generic adaptor at least.

Now another question.. what's the latest version ? 10.5.1 ? or more? and a name ? (like uphuck mac.nob, XxX, etc)

i'm downloading 4 of them:

the 2 i mentioned plus

Kalyway 10.4.10 (IntelSSE3 + V1.1_AMD&SSE2_Patch+fixes)

PWRBBX_osx86_xxx

and a 10.5.0 named ToH_x86_9A581_RC2.iso

Any recommendations on which to install and wherher you belive the 10.5 might be for real? it's the only one that has 4.37 GB, the rest are 1.3, 1.6, 1.8 or 1.9

Also, I found a tutorial somewhere that had a list of possible errors that might occur after instalation and also some possible solutions. Does anyone know where that is? I've read much too many pages of blogs, wikis and tutorials about osx86 to remember where it was, and I can't find it again..

Thanks a lot people!! You're doing an amazing job for all of us out there who can't afford a mac right now. And rest assured, ppl will get one as soon as they can after finding out how nice and polite OS X is.

It doesn't exists any perfect Hackint0sh , especially notebooks speaking.

I'm writing this from a 100% clone one, but it's totally different.Just go on an AppleStore, opne the lid , and feeling the touch...!

Maybe about mac pro replacement there's more debate..

No, it doesn't work. Not yet. Only 5- 6- and 7- series geforces as well as the 8800 are working. You can check the wiki for full information.
