I've done the BrazilMac patch process twice now and made two DVDs and have the same results with both... when booting at least four different SSE3 machines, including two seperate Dell GX620 (one with 64bit chip) and a GX270, it always just seems to stop on the grey Apple logo with the spinning progress wheel under it. The spinning progress wheel keeps on spinning but it goes nowhere. I've let it sit for at least an hour and I come back and it's still on that first grey screen.

I patched the Leopard GM image from within Leopard. Do I need to do it from within Tiger? Do I need to have the "root" account enabled? I'm following the BrazilMac guide PRECISELY, and twice with the same unsuccessful results.

Can anyone notice any problems with my patch session below? Please help!...

I don't mean to bump my thread again, but I can't beleive nobody else has had this problem. Does anyone have any idea why I can't boot my BrazilMac Leo DVD on a Dell GX620 or GX270? It just won't go any further than the grey screen with grey Apple logo. Can someone read my patch session above and tell me what I'm doing wrong? I followed the BrazilMac guide precisely - twice with same results :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Add me to the List.. I didn't realize you posted this.. I posted a similar thread..

and like you Macvault, I did the exact same thing.. First time I suspected maybe my original DVD Source for Leopard was bad so I downloaded another one from a different source. It patched perfectly using the latest Brazilmac. I burned my DVD Image. In fact I can't tell you how many copies of this thing I've done. Thinking maybe I burned a bad one or I would burn another using different DVD Speeds, etc. Different Apps. Nothing gets me past that Gray background with the spinning icon in the middle. Thats as far as it goes.

I've got at my disposal (IBM SHOP). A T61, T42 (that I actually have a working 10.4.8 installation on) and an IBM 8189 Desktop Tower.

The T61 I get the color pin wheel eventually but it will freeze after a while and go no further.

Definitely Disappointing that we seem to be the only few that have this issue while everyone else has gotten so much further.

I have this same problem. It's killing me. I've spent 7 hours today trying every possible way of booting that damn patched dvd. It just won't boot. I've tried it on an ide dvd drive, a usb dvd drive, using a bootable partition with the dvd image restored to it... nothing.

When I've booted with verbose mode, it doesnt ever get any further than some kind of analysis of disk1s3 or the like, as someone mentioned above. As far as a hardware error goes, I'm running a core 2 duo, so it can't be our processors if we're having the same error.

Sigh, what a waste of a day. I was so looking forward to having leopard on my desktop.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Did you try to use -v -x to get it to boot? Neither of you guys have gotten to the install screen yet right? What version are you guys using?

Thats correct. I have not yet reached the Install screen. I did try the -v.. It didn't result in anything useful.. I think the last thing I recall was something about DSMOS String 1 or something like that.. Certainly nothing like an obvious error message regarding reading or hardware, etc.

As far as version. I've downloaded 2 different DVD Images. Both 6.6 gigs in a DMG format.. Both appear legit as when I mount it on my 10.4.8 system it shows the standard Leopard Install Icons, & files, etc. I then use the Latest Brazilmac to patch it which also goes completely successful. I burned the Patched ISO using Disk Utility, Toast and even copied it over to a PC and used IMGBURN. All 3 disks boot up fine but get no further than the Gray Apple screen with the spining Icon in the lower half.

In fact both DVD Images I downloaded have done the exact same thing. THe first DVD Image I suspected well, maybe it's flawed or something and thats when I downloaded a different one but unfortunatley it results in the exact same problem.

-x is safe mode. I can only boot my Presario C700 (laptop) from the DVD in safe mode. YOU MUST try -x it will work.

Then you will get the whole damn thing installed and do everything else the guides tell you (I'm using this one (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=72493) and be stuck at the exact same screen (gray apple logo) but this time from your HD. Thats where I am now and its the same problem that macbook pros have see here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...rt=#entry485079

Come on guys you can at least catch up to where I am and then we can all be stuck in the same place together LOL

Ahhhhh Well I hope the -x works for you. Otherwise google darwin switches. Try everything you can find. Some people have the do platform=ACPI to get it to boot.

00Diabolic - OMG, your an F'in Genius!. I did the -x

Its the first time I've EVER seen the Leopard Install. I'll let ya know how it goes.. I'm installing right now!

Thanks Bro!

YOUR so welcome. I just hope you get further then I did in the install. I get all the way through and die at first gui boot of Leopard. Good Luck

Well, I'll have to try a few more things tomorrow.. It installed fine but goes into a reboot loop.. I tried installing the EFI 7.2 and only managed to cause it to boot up to a blinking cursor.. I'll likely start from scratch tomorrow and try it again..

Thanks

i have a similar problem, this is my configuration:

post-158441-1196491349_thumb.jpg

and my graphics card is an nvidia 7600 (or something) GT

i dd-ed the leopard-x86-flat-img, which is essentially a brazilmac dvd installed, to my hard disk, first i got these HPET errors, no problem, i removed the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement filed out of the extensions folder, but now, even with -v -f -x platform=ACPI, i can't get any further than to the "starting..." after indicating "no Index" well and besides an error saying "error getting a reference to IODeviceTree" there's nothing much going wrong, either it's the graphics card (which i doubt) cause they ship a real MacPro with it, or the image is corrupt -> which would be it... after doing extensive research, i'm getting to the point, where even i start to think the brazilmac dvd is a hoax and does not really work - i'd be happy to be proven wrong, but i'm afraid, leopard is simply not available for intel pcs yet, i think most of the people who say they got it running were just lucky, because they have almost the same configuration as the author of the brazilmac dvd (core2duo processor and so on) >> in my opinion leopard is not bootable on any other intel processor, i really tried a lot now, but nothing really seems to work, and looking for an answer on the net only results in finding more people without any clue, which of some even suspect that the brazilmac dvd is only a show off, which never was designed to boot into the gui ^^

well, if there's anyone who knows the answer to our problem, please post, but i think trying to get leopard to work on an intel processor, other than core2duo, is simply impossible and a therefor a waste of time

in the beginning i really went into with high hopes, i'm so sick of using windows and linux, i've recently bought a macbook, which is now as good as broken, apple says it's not their fault and i can't fix it myself, cause they won't supply spare parts and they want 600$ to fix it -.- i can't really afford the new macs, and rendering graphics on my g4 is simply a pain in the... i'm found myself really lucky, when my neighbor gave me his 3,2ghz machine, but now i'm starting to think it's of no use anyway :/

Well I made a little more progress. I got my Leopard Installed and followed the Instructions for installing the EFI 7.2. It actually boots up now and I was crossing my fingers I'd see the actual Leopard desktop but instead it gets to a blue background and thats it.

Ohhhhhhhhh So close!
