I'm looking to upgrade to a basic Core 2 Duo system, and I'm looking at two motherboards for OSx86 compatibility.

One is an MSI P4M890M-L. It has a VIA P4M890 chipset, and VIA VT1708 audio.

The other is an ECS 945G-M3. It has an Intel 945G chipset, and ALC880 audio.

Which am I most likely to get working, with or without patching? I'm not concerned about the onboard LAN, since I have a working LAN card that I can use if I have to. I'd like to know how well SATA will work on the ECS board as well, since it only has one IDE channel.

Thanks.

Of course get the ECS 945G-M3. The 945g is the current best chipset for OSX86.

GMA950 should work with no patching in 10.4 and little patching in 10.5

ALC880 should work with taruga's HDA patcher.

SATA and IDE will work perfectly with the ECS since it uses ICH7

Ethernet should work with the Realtek ethernet driver.

-I don't know about the motherboard with the VIA chipset. I recommend that you get the intel 945G chipset since it is used on real macs and will be better supported with less patching.
