scousi
I would go for compatibility rather than cost/power if you want an opinion. Use an Intel chipset (or board) and a SSE3 pentium. Maybe even go for the newer Duo Core/MB combo. My setup is an Asus p5GL-MX. Everything works except sound. I solved the problem by buying a Creative USB sounblaster live 24. It works (even 5.1 sound) without any special patching. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6806-best-osx86-to-use/#findComment-42068 Share on other sites
devster
i think you maybe mis-understood, the specs are the pc i actually have got, i owuld like recomendations of which version of osx86 too use as there seem too be a fair few out on torrents, thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6806-best-osx86-to-use/#findComment-42069 Share on other sites
phor2zero
I'm using a system similar to yours.. I installed 10.4.3 8f1099 with maxxus dvd-iso ppf patch. I mounted the patched iso with alchohol120% created a vmware machine with basically default choices, added my spare 40g hard drive as a physical/persistant harddrive to the vmware machine. When the install starts you have to press f10 for boot options and enter the kernel,,, i used mach_kernal.orig, and press enter. When the install gets to asking you where to install, use disk utility to erase the physical hard drive and format it. Then install on the spare drive, You can run OSX in vmware, or reboot the computer, setting the spare hard drive as boot device in your bios and run it natively. Works perfectly for me, except no networking with this board and no Nvidia drivers for 3d support. You'll need to buy a supported ethernet card to get networking, or use dialup. I'm using Athlon64 3700+ Asus A8N SLI Deluxe 2GB Ram I've heard the newer version of OSX86 is really slow, so I'm sticking with this version for now Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6806-best-osx86-to-use/#findComment-42076 Share on other sites
archer75
If one already has a CPU that supports SSE3 how do you apply the TPM only patch? The directions on Maxxuss website would indicate you need to apply the patch once OSX is installed. But you can't install it without that patch. So i'm somewhat confused. devster
cheer's, this should be fun, so basically install under vmware format the hard sik i want too use then if i wish select it under boot choices when the pc starts, simple enough, the network driver will irritate me though as i ave my broaband through a router, have too use usb wireless stick i guess also i forgot, will it install on one of my sata drives i do i have to gamble with using my external usb drive Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6806-best-osx86-to-use/#findComment-42086 Share on other sites
phor2zero
the patch is applied to the iso of your install disk... which you have to create from the dmg file you downloaded with UltraISO. Be sure to check the md5 sums before and after... mine didn't match first time. second time it did.... I don't know about sata support... my spare hard drive is ata, it worked well. Vmware claims it can't install directly to the spare drive, so don't make the physical drive 0.0 ... leave the virtual drive vmware creates as 0.0 then when you get into the mac install program and it asks you which drive to install it to,, just use disk utilities (drive utilities?) to select the physical drive, erase, and install. by the way, I partitioned, but didn't format, the spare drive in windows before I started. I used the info on this link, only difference is DON"T set the physical drive as 0.0, cause it won't work. http://win2osx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1689 I used this file: 10.4.3_8f1099_for_dtk_userdvd.dmg turned it into this with UltraISO: 10.4.3_8f1099_for_dtk_userdvd.iso then patched the iso with this: Maxxuss DVD-ISO_8F1099 Patch v1.1a.ppf I used Alcohol 120% to mount the patched iso to a virtual drive, you could also use daemon tools, or burn it to dvd and use it that way. Here's a modified version of the instructions I linked to above: Installation instructions to pass the Native DVD-Bootup Error Requirements: - VMWare installed - the patched DVD (try mounting the iso, or if this does not work, burn it on a real disk) - Primary AF Partition on a real Harddrive (I used my secondary Harddrive) (You can either setup this AF partition with diskpart, or you do it in the installation process itself. i did it before.) HowTo 1. Apply maxxuss DVD/ISO patcher with ppf on the DVD-ISO Image 2. Mount, or if this gives you errors, burn the DVD 3. In VMWare - add your desired real HD as a boot drive to your virtual machine in VMWare (add>hd>use physical disk>advanced>independent/persistend) - set this disk to 0,1 in the HD advanced settings - note that you don't have to have any osx installed in your vmware. This will work with a blank VMware, too. :0) - make sure VMWare is set up to boot from your real DVD or the virtual drive you've mounted the iso on. - mount the ISO, or if you burned it, insert DVD, start VMWARE-Machine, and follow the installation - when it asks you for the drive, select your desired real HD Volume/partition as target, and erase it. Note: if the drive/partition does not show up, then carefully use the diskutility. It is also important to select the erase option, because this will give you the bootmanager. So it is kinda crossover between VMWare and native, like a DVD-Rom in a nutshell. It is a little sluggish but it is working. As soon as you don't get a grey stop-sign, or an error message, just wait, because everything is gonna be alright. This way it will install it on your native HD, and it will also give you a bootsector. This is a very convenient way, to pass the nasty boot issues. devster
Ok most of that seems ok, but theres a coupleo f points im a bit stuck at: dmg to iso i understnad, how do you patch the iso after that?? also where do i get hold of Maxxus DVD-ISO_8F1099 Patch v1.1a.ppf........... also in vmware what vm do i set up, coz there isn't a mac osx option, do i just use "other" and im a mac noob, so most of this seems weird too do in order to install a system soo i apologise in advance for any seemingly stupid questions i ask also i am currently downlaoding the version you used but i also downlaoded....... Mac OS x86 VMWARE image from torrents, filename tiger-x86.tar it is 1.7gigs wouldi be able too use this and has anyone used it? Use google to find maxxus web page... you'll use a program called ppf patcher to install the patch, you'll find the info you need on his page. just use the "other" option yes it's a weird way to install an OS, cause it's not "supposed" to work on your computer. the tiger-x86.tar is the original "deadmoo" image, it's 10.4.1 version. I used that one also, it worked but it was very slow, and it was several months ago, so I don't remember the method of installing it exactly, but you have to use a program called dd.exe to copy the image file to a spare hard drive to native boot. oh... and one more thing. after you create the virtualmachine.. and before you start it up... open up the folder you installed it in... (default is C:\Documents and Settings\name\My Documents\My Virtual Machines\) and open the file called Other.vmx with notepad... add a line that says: paevm = "TRUE" keep in mind that I'm assuming your fx55 is sse3 and nx capable. it should be, i'm using an athlon64 3700. When you first start the virtual machine... hit f10 for boot options and type; mach_kernel.orig ... and press enter.
