dodih
is there a way to use a bluetooth gps with the iphone?
solaar
That's a good question but knowing how bluetooth is currently implemented the answer is most likely a devastating NO. Bluetooth is very rudimentary on the iphone with the current firmware. AFAIK it only lets you connect to an Apple headset, full stop. I tried several headsets and other bluetooth devices from different manufacturers but no joy. Perhaps somebody has some brighter outlook on this. Hacks anyone? It would be the cherry on top to have 'proper' GPS. Navizon is sort of ok but not precise enough for me.

I'm not sure i understand really how navizon works...... Very roughly, Navizon uses mobile phone towers and wifi hot spots to determine the position. The major urban areas, motorways etc are probably covered but from what I've read it also depends a bit on the cooperation of users who live in areas that are yet to be assigned to hot spot positions on the map. It can obviously not be as precise as satellite navigation. You can read it up on their website.
Josher
There is a solution coming for jailbroken iphones. Here's the website of the company but its not via bluetooth http://partfoundry.com/iphonegps.html Looks promising though with integration into google maps on the iphone. JSn1™
With the new firmware, localization will be possible via cell tower triangulation... That is not full GPS, but works right.

JSn1™
1.1.3 Maps application can locate you via cell tower triangulation, and yes, it is free, there is a soft update for 1.1.3 without updating the baseband.

JSn1™
You just have to be on 1.1.2 or 1.1.1 and have the installer.app updated. Your iPhone will be updated to 1.1.3 and your data won't be lost. Remeber that iTunes backups your iPhone everytime you plug it.

JSn1™
It is located on Installer.app, just add the community sources. Also, you have to get the special iBrikr 1.1.3. You can also look for the Official Update 1.1.3 on Installer.app
