Thanatios
Hey all, I was wondering what program you guys use to backup your Mac OS X Installation. And another question: How do I update Mac OS 10.4.6 all the way up to Mac OS 10.4.10. Or atleast 10.4.8? Thanks in advance! hecker
Hey all, I was wondering what program you guys use to backup your Mac OS X Installation.Use SuperDuper (the free version gets the job done well). And another question:How do I update Mac OS 10.4.6 all the way up to Mac OS 10.4.10. Or atleast 10.4.8? I wouldn't recommend it. A better alternative is to make a clone image of your current System (remember to use sparse images) with SuperDuper, install 10.4.10 from scratch and recover your old files (choose User and Applications files only!) via the "Migration Assistant" utility (in Applications/Utilities). You can create a bootable CD-rom (for windows machines) that is the ultimate resque disk, especially when you also acquire Acronis Disk Director - which is a partition manager. The software also allows you to creat the special Bart boot disks which will allow you to create a bootable WindowsXP disk with additional software. This all doesn't work on intel macs but works great on Hacks. Migrating your old data to a new system would be a pain, otherwise. hecker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65350-what-program-to-use-to-backup/#findComment-462866 Share on other sites
Thanatios
Thanks for the reply, really appriciate that Well, the problem is that I can't install 10.4.10 directly. I don't have a DVD -Re, and VMWare woont boot up the 10.4.9/10 DVD for me to install it. I do have a 10.4.8 DVD JAS ISO on my PC. Is there any way to use that to update my mac to 10.4.8? I want to have atleast version 10.4.8 on my PC. Thanks in advance guys! EDIT: And by far as I know, 10.4.9 and 10.4.10 don't work with SSE2. And how about 10.4.8? Or am I missing something here? And can anyone link me to a guide on how to update? If I remember it all good, you need to backup some files, or am I mistaking? Thanks in advance! twobunnyrabbit
Another backup consideration is Carbon Copy Cloner. Its free, author asks donation if user finds it useful.
