flyingsuperpetis
The scenario: 99% of my communications all happen over the internet. The remaining 1% are always critical and out in the field where there are no landlines. So, I have a GoPhone. Now I carry a PocketPC, an MP3 player, a Cellphone, a Tablet PC, a Camera, several external HDs and memory widgets to transfer stuff back & forth and all the requisite power and syncing cables and cradles... I hate dragging around and setting up/taking down all this crapola every week. So, I'm looking at finally taking the plunge, ditching my entire windows-based mobile office for either an iMac or a Modbook (the mysterious Mac Tablet), and an iPhone. This setup should do everything in two self-contained devices. Thing is, I talk on the phone so rarely, (about 10-15 minutes a month) that it hardly warrants a $1500 two-year commitment to AT&T. ---- Question 1: Has anyone actually used the iphone with GoPhone service? I wonder if it works, if it can still access the internet, etc... or will I need to unlock it and find another service provider with a more appropriate usage plan. I guess I'd rather keep it under warranty. Question 2: As I look around, it appears that the Second Coming of the iPhone is near. At this point, would you wait it out for a few more months to see how iPhone II looks (or what [budget iPhone] does to improve the specs of the current high-end model), or is that like waiting with boards over your windows for the end of the world to come? Thanks for any pointers, Pete Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65210-iphone-i-or-iphone-ii-gophone-service-no-really/ Share on other sites
skyhighmac
Macbook. No modbook, they aren't even shipping yet. And not imac since it isn't "portable." iPhone/GoPhone Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65210-iphone-i-or-iphone-ii-gophone-service-no-really/#findComment-461895 Share on other sites
brandon0104
I have an iPhone GoPhone and it works great! I just entered all 9's as my SSN when I activated through iTunes. Everything is still functional. I'm not sure the iPhone could fully replace your PDA. What exactly do you use the pocketPC for? flyingsuperpetis
Thx for the replies everyone, It's been forever since I actually used the PocketPC's Excel & Word apps, or got its wifi card to work, or tried to view an image of a map on its dinky screen. I use the pda mostly for task lists, calendar, contacts, and as my alarm clock. From what I gather, iphone does these things right out of the box. I have skinny fingers, and I'm already used to GoPhones repetitive account balance messages, so I think the only concern left is how effectively the iphone syncs to the MacBook Pro I just ordered about ten minutes ago. Kinda hoping I can use both the MBP & the iP to access & modify the types of data listed above quickly and easily. Thanks for the responses!
