~pcwiz
Hi, I am having trouble getting newer kernels to work. I am running Uphuck 1.4iR3 with the PascalW 10.4.10 Delta updater but I am still using the 8.8.1 SSE3 kernel. Heres what happens with the other kernels: 8.8.1 Universal from JaS 10.4.8 - works OK ; stability problems 8.9.1 Universal from IRC - unstable ; random kernel panics, reboots, lockups 8.9.1 SSE3 from IRC - hangs at blue screen 8.10.1 Intel kernel from PascalW updater - won't boot ; system loads extensions and then reboots 8.10.3 SSE3 Intel kernel from Kalyway 10.4.10 - won't boot ; system loads extensions and then reboots All I can use now is the 8.8.1 kernel. Why? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64785-why-wont-new-kernels-work/ Share on other sites
mifki
people dont patch kernel's consistently / they dont know how to do a proper kernel patch. 8.8.1 is still the best publicly available kernel to use. mitch_de
We can see that all Kernels have some Problems with your HW-Config. Even the 8.8.1 (some stability problems). Running OS X , Linux on PC gives much access rate of RAM I/O and (Virtual=over RAM) DISK I/O than WIN XP. Its much more dynamic, than the XP in this way. And of that faster in doing tasks parallel. So an really , 100% OK RAM is needed - that way that RAM also works 100% in high access rate situation. YOu can should use REMBER (macupdate) to check this. It test the RAm under hard (real life) conditions. Also overclocked Boards may run with WIN XP but not with Linux/OS X (instable). ~pcwiz
Minor stability problems with 8.8.1, not serious. The stability problems usually happen when OS X is doing something related to internet.
