Swami the Jerk Posted October 4, 2007 Author Share Posted October 4, 2007 well.. i solved this by using my complete hdd for osx.. so, no windows now ... neways not an issue for me.. yahoo messenger, google talk and msn workd on mac as well.. but, i have all my files in the maxtor hdd.. its in ntfs format.. osx is detecting it.. but its not mounting it! tried several times to mount it via diskutility.. its not getting mounted all the apps i had downloaded for mac are saved in tht very hdd... by the way earlier it used to work, but at tht time i had turned the external hdd on during installation, this time i dint, i installed osx, then after i saw the desktop i turned this on, but am getting error Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
~pcwiz Posted October 4, 2007 Share Posted October 4, 2007 OK, heres what to do: Reinstall XP and backup the files from the NTFS partition. Then format the NTFS partition as FAT32 (which OS X will detect) and restore the files that you backed up to the partition. Now remove windows and reinstall OS X as normal and you should be able to access your stuff. One note: There is a 4GB maximum file size limit on FAT32. Swami the Jerk Posted October 6, 2007 Author Share Posted October 6, 2007 pcwiz... sorry for the late reply its today tht i sorted it out, and have a working system now.. read ur pm just 2 mins back what i did as i cud not see ur post.... used the mac cd and formatted the hdd as two.. one for osx and installed osx the other as free space then took win xp cd and formatted tht free space into two.. one as ntfs and one as fat32 in the ntfs i installed xp.. the fat32 partition is used to copy paste things from my undetected maxtor external hdd for usage in osx then copied the chain0 file from the osx dvd and pasted it in the xp installation and added the c:\chain0 thingy in boot.ini.. now i have two boot menus!!! one is by xp to choose xp or mac... when i select mac it shows another boot menu to choose xp or mac... this is weird! and if i dont tap any key after selecting mac from the xp's boot menu, the mac boot menu goes to xp as default.. maybe coz xp partition is active? or is there any method to edit the com.aaple.boot.plist and remove tht xp from it, so tht after selecting mac from the xp boot menu it sud go only to mac instead of waiting for me to "again" select mac??? diabz Posted October 6, 2007 Share Posted October 6, 2007 problems like this are nearly always video drivers. don't select anything during your install except the core system components for you CPU. the video drivers are dodgy when applied during installation, i've never gotten them to work. but, natit dual 0.1 and AGPGart.kext 2.0 make my system scream, when installed and configured post-installation. swami, incorrectly configured AGP settings when used with AGPGart.kext causes problems. i'd recommend not advising people to remove it as it is a very valuable tool when you do something simple like set your AGP Aperture size to 128MB. it's your prerogative whether you listen to the people who tell you how to fix your problems or not, but please don't condemn decent software. ta Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just gonna have to live with it diabz, The video problem has already been solved using Titan. And if you mean that the boot menu issue is related to video, WRONG That issue Swami is experiencing with the boot menus is a well known issue with the chain0 method. diabz Posted October 7, 2007 Share Posted October 7, 2007 no, you're right, that is VERY obviously not what i'm talking about when i'm talking about video drivers. and i will make this very clear for the very last time; i grow tired of explaining the same thing over and over again. swami is using an AGP graphics card. one assumes that his motherboard supports AGP 8x. while his video is now utilising CI/QE/QE2D, his card is being recognised as PCI, due to not having AGPGart.kext installed. now MacOS X, like any other operating system, isn't going to try to utilise bus speeds that would exceed the architechture. therefore, with the OS using only the speed of the PCI bus, you will note average performance in intensive video. AGPGart makes the OS recongise the AGP bus, and thus enables AGP 8x for faster video capabilities. that is all it does. real macs don't use AGP, therefore, obviously, the OS is gonna need some haxing. edit: frustration set in, and this was a whole lot nastier before this edit. apologies to those who saw it. Swami the Jerk Posted October 7, 2007 Author Share Posted October 7, 2007 okie.. so i will have live with tht two time selection for gettin into mac okie and abt the AGPGart.. i removed tht thinkin even agpgart is a video driver.. so, i will reinstall it back so tht my gfx card is recognised as AGP instead of it gettin recognized as pci thanks to both of ya i never sed anything against anyones advice i followed everything just like i was asked to do.. all i said was tht when i removed everything and instaleld just titan, my video driver problem was solved... :censored2: neways.. back to the agpgart.. u sed i have to set my agp aperture size to 128? but my card is 256... no issues? Swami the Jerk Posted October 8, 2007 Author Share Posted October 8, 2007 diabz... i installed the agpgart package i got from the uphuck dvd... i rebooted as the setup asked me to... before rebooting i repaired the permissions usin disk utility... then was the reboot.. then i tapped del and entered bios and changed the agp aperture size into 128mb... then saved.. then rebooted.. then tried booting in osx... but all i got was a blue screen.. no mouse pointer as well then forcefully resetted usin the cpu button... then tried booting in safe mode.. it worked ... i saw AGP instead of PCI in the system profiler... but, the problem now is i can only boot in safe mode u sed u used natit and agpgart.. but, i have used titan and agpgart.. do i have to remove my titan and go for natit as well? but, when i looked natit.. there are four versions in natit unlike titan where there was just a single version right now am typing from the safe mode booted osx Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Swami the Jerk Posted October 10, 2007 Author Share Posted October 10, 2007 diabz... natit is not working for me.. tried with several versions.. 1.0... dual 0.1 dual 0.2 ... everything will make my monitor turn off at login window.. then will turn back on after some time.. by then it wud show my desktop! then tried titan... its not givin me this error.. and tried several AGPGarts.. the only one tht i have workin is AGPGart 2.0 now am with Titan and AGPGart 2.0 in normal boot.. not safe boot like before.. but, after i installed AGPGart... system profiler shows it as AGP... but, Quartz2d and open gl is gone my xbench score went way too down :(earlier it was not so high./.. was in 57 but, now with AGPGart its givin me a score of 43!!! and Core Image: Not Supported Mirror: Off Quartz Extreme: Not Supported i thot the Quartz can be enabled with quartz debug... but, the tools pulldown menu shows a grayed out "enable quartz" Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
