I've been with Windows too long

I've had success with OS X x86 and have begun investigating software to try out. I had heard about the iWork suite, so I read its wiki and came across this tidbit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IWork

"New versions of Pages and Keynote were introduced, as was a new spreadsheet application, Numbers. Despite this, hard disk space requirements were reduced from 1.85 GB in iWork '06 to 690 MB in iWork '08."

Reduced?!? A new series of commerical applications that had updated tools but still somehow managed to lower its usage of disk space? Unheard of from where I was sitting.

Then again I've been using Vista for the past 6 months, so... :) Heck, I've heard that Leopard is going to be even faster and more efficient, or at least as speedy as Tiger on existing hardware. With Windows I've come to expect newer versions to be substantially more taxing than the last.

Also, did you know that the installer (just the installer) for Nero 8 in Windows is something like a gig? Not sure if it's out yet, but that's what I heard. Insane what I've come to expect. Just thought I'd get that observation off my chest. :P

Personally, I think Apple programs are bloated and take up way too much hdd space. Way more than windows.

I think it would be great for Apple to become more efficient with software hdd consumption, but then again does it really matter with 500gb or so hdds for less than 150 usd. Not really...

It's true, iLife and iWork are considerably smaller this time around. Good stuff from Apple. I don't know why iPhoto is 400mb in the first place.

Hint: You can save gb's by taking off the iLife sound effects and garageband loops in your Application Support directory.
