Johnny Stecchino
Hi... The big question : will OSX run on my configuration? And if so, how stable? I plan to use it for music creation, a field where Macs have been appreciated for a long time in terms of stability... ( I plan to use Logic 8 ). CPU: 2.4 Ghz P4 Prescott AUDIO: external USB audio card from M-Audio ( drivers for Macintosh do exist ). VIDEO: ATI Sapphire Radeon 9200 Atlantis ( dual head ) RAM: 1.5 Gb HDD: I have both PATA and SATA hard disks. I actually plan to use a good ole' PATA for setup. I have to wipe an hard disk for this purpose, so before going much further, I'd like to hear from you whether this is feasible, how stable would it be for just music production, and what you think about it. Thanks! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63834-will-it-run/ Share on other sites

Johnny Stecchino
thanks for the reply, Slip Kid. I am pretty excited about checking it out. I have a G4 and it's just too old for what I have in mind. which torrent should I go after? I am obviously on the Green Dem... I've seen there's a lot of stuff, what I am looking for actually is a clean install, whitout bells and whistles ( I can install stuff later anyway, right? =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63834-will-it-run/#findComment-451828 Share on other sites
LSD_GPx
I have a mAudio Omnistudio USB myself on a prescott 3,0Ghz. It works pretty good. what motherboard do you have? As for a distro I would reccomend you a 10.4.8 JaS relase. Its a bit old (10.4.8) but very reliable and easy to install (you can update afterwards). From newer relases I wouldn pick uphucks ones, they are a lot buggy to me. Maybe the Myzar 10.4.9 works good (his older relases were good) but I didnt try it... Johnny Stecchino
Hey MacGarcha! I have a MobilePre USB. Logic Pro 8 is "out" so... You know what I mean. It would be stupid to get stuck with inferior software On M-Audio's homepage there is a driver for my card so... I will look after JaS release. Thanks for your suggestion! EDIT: My motherboard is an ASUS P4P800 DeLuxe. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63834-will-it-run/#findComment-451856 Share on other sites
karmatose
JaS' 10.4.8 PPF1+PPF2 disk will install beautifully on that board.. That's the disk I would go with. LSD_GPx
I have the P4P800-VM, everything works very well (exept for the integrated graphic chip). I would use SATA disk, it will increase the system performance. About your graphic card I dont know if is fully supported. Im using a Nvidia FX5200 (cheep card); but theres quite a few nvidia cards that works nicely.... good luck!
