If you have mini-PCI, then you could go with a broadcom 4318 wifi card. A simple edit of the plist and this is recognized as a native Airport card. If you have mini-PCI Express, then you MIGHT be able to use a Broadcom 4311, but a LOT of people are having an issue with this card on the mini-PCI Express bus.

I have 2 BCM4306s (14e4:4320) pulled from older laptops and some kind of Atheros card (can't remember the model/devid), all of which are Mini-PCI cards which work as native Airport cards with plist edits. If it's Mini-PCI Express, you may as well use a real Airport card!
