PowerPPC2289
Hey, when leopard is released, I plan on getting myself a copy and doing a fresh install, I did download the beta but I decided to wait until everything was smoothed out first. Im just wondering what is the best way to do a fresh install of the OS and keep ALL of my programs/software that I currently have installed on tiger. The problem is I dont have the install discs for some of my software like iLife 08 and Adobe Photoshop CS3 for example, so would it be possible to just literaly send my applications folder and my library folder via Wireless network to my windows pc and then copy them back over once I have installed the new OS or will I encouter problem after problem. Thanks alot. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61020-backing-up-programs-and-document/ Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
You can't just copy the Application files for programs like cs3. You have to install them. I just wanna say, fresh installs aren't uber-necessary for (real) macs. Your macbook should be able to update to 10.5 no problem. That said, here a few suggestions of the top of my head Maybe you can use Superduper, Carbon Copy Cloner, Ibackup or some program to create a backup, then use migration assistant to transfer your apps (select other partition). Failing that, perhaps you can find another mac, and use a firewire cable + migration assistant (never failed me before) However, this mitigates the point of a fresh install IMO, as you're just transferring all your {censored} right back. PowerPPC2289
Thanks for your tips. I think what I might do is just choose to upgrade and if I encounter problems then I will do a fresh install and figure out a way then. I read on another forum that just copying the applications over would work as long as you also copied all the data that was stored in the library folder but never-mind. Thanks again. HackerName
uhm, why dont you do an archive and install(did i spell that right xD), its like a clean install, but it transfers your accounts and apps over Apparently Archive and Install is spotty at best with Leopard. That's what got me into the Partition-trouble in the first place. No leopard for me Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61020-backing-up-programs-and-document/#findComment-433492 Share on other sites
hazkid
But A&I will work in the final Leopard. It better work, Apple, or I'll........... probably just go with it, as I don't have the ability to question Apple's decisions. Actually, I do, but this post is way too off-topic already... But I do hope archive&install wil work, because it really is just like a clean install. I don't know why Apple even provides "upgrade".
