MacOS_X Posted August 13, 2007 Share Posted August 13, 2007 The first that comes in mind is the "everchanging desktop" (I refuse to call it active desktop, since that's an MS term for another technology). Remember back in a while, when we read about those patents of Apple about a desktop that is changing/morphing/living/breathing/whatever? I didn't see any option about this... Has anyone found any references about it? It was supposedly made to use Core Animation and Core Image. Second, that patent also talked about window transitions, eg smooth changes between a window and the desktop, or one window to another, in a smoother way and giving more visual feedback to the user that things actually changed and that his action triggered something. Now I have noticed a minor detail. The logon screen. Fire up Tiger and enter your password. The window disappears instantly and the desktop is shown. Go to Leo and enter your password. The window fades (albeit fast) and the desktop is shown. Yes, it's an extremely minor thing but I really wish for things like this. Which all make me think this: we are approaching the feature-frozen beta. Nothing will change after that; it'll only get debugged. And I commend: there's still nothing "Illuminating" about Leo's UI even this late in its development state. What say you? antic Posted August 13, 2007 Share Posted August 13, 2007 I still believe we are going to see some changes to the interface ie sliders,buttons and scroll bars etc. They have already changed them in the recent versions of ilife 08. The rest will come in the final retail release. Hopefully it will be along the same lines as the iPhone. We still might also get resolution independance. I saw on Tech TV's 'The Screen Saver' when Leo Laporte use Flurry as his animated wallpaper. lookmark Posted August 13, 2007 Share Posted August 13, 2007 I'd like to think so, but I have the accept the great likelihood that during Leopard's extended development Apple went through something of a resource crunch and had to choose to focus more of their attention on "new" OSes like OS X Mini (which have *enormous* breakthrough potential for current and soon-to-be-updated - ahem! -- mobile devices) than Leopard. I'd love to see something more ambitious and worthy of "top secret" billing for Leopard's final release (and I'm sure there's a large number of small UI tweaks to come before GM) but at this point I think we're going to mostly get what they've showed us so far. Implement it, and you will get fancy, nice looking but absolutely unusable OS. I don't think Apple want to reduce their market share back to 1% (computer for fans). Even more, I have strong feeling that Apple really want to extend their presence on office desktops market.
