Abysmal
I want to upgrade my hack video card.. and due to a budget I need to know what would be my best fully functional choice.. I'm not rally a gamer so I am just looking for a fully supported card.. I was steering towards an nVidia card.. Should I get a 7300GT or a 7600GS.. and 256 or 512 for the ram size.. I was trying to do this for under a hundred dollars.. Ideas / Comments?? BJMoose
Either of those two cards will work just fine and will be well within your price range. 256mb ram is easiest to deal with. 512mb ram will require the additional step of flashing the rom so it is compatible with OSX. I chose the latter because I had an extra card just in case of failure. 256mb ram will work very well with things like video editing and production. skn
I have a XFX 7600GS 256MB. It works like a charm on OSX! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/59502-wanting-a-new-videocard/#findComment-425798 Share on other sites
BJMoose
The 7600GS runs pretty cool. You might try to find one with a heat sink as opposed to a fan. Mine is a MSI and it runs well in both windows and osx. Tiranofice
the 8500 gt works, it is awesome in vista and xp, but no QE CI support in OSX. And you must remove the nvidhal40 and nvidresman kexts from your extensions list to remove a bug, for the rest it works just fine. josh256
7300GT/256MB would be the best choice if gamer-level OpenGL is not a requirement.. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/59502-wanting-a-new-videocard/#findComment-455309 Share on other sites
