Apple's .Mac site warns users that the .Mac service will be undergoing maintenance on August 7th between 10 AM an 12 PM PDT.

Due to scheduled maintenance, .Mac members might be intermittently unable to access some .Mac services from 10 AM to 12 PM PDT on 08/07/2007. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Coincidentally, this time corresponds exactly to Apple's Media Event which is scheduled to take place on August 7th at 10AM PDT.

Steve Jobs had hinted that .Mac would see a refresh in the near future during a recent interview.

Walt: .Mac... you guys didn't really develop it.

Steve: I couldn't agree more, and we'll make up for lost time in the near future

What does steve imply you think?:unsure:

If true, it would be indeed a long time coming. I am coming up on my subscription renewal, and frankly with the gamut of solutions out there, one might need a compelling reason to stay with .Mac. So I wait :=)

Wow, fantastic! For $100 a year you can get something that you can already get elsewhere for free. I'll admit I got suckered into to trying out .Mac a few months ago. The two most important things, to me at least, was the ability to sync contacts, calendars, etc., and also to have a drive (iDisk) that would allow me to access data on both my laptop and desktop and keep those files in sync. Both features have had miserable failures. At first I thought it might be due to the fact I was running hackintosh boxes. After a good deal of research, the problems I was having could be found quite easily on both PPC and Intel Macs. The most common solution from Apple....reinstall your operating system. Sorry, if I wanted to be doing that every 2 months I would be running Windows!

The most impressive "upgrade" they could have given .Mac was simply the ability to function as advertised!
