WaxTrax!
My apologies if this has been covered before, but is anyone else having problems with this after having more than a day of uptime? Since I've installed 8F1111a, once it reaches between 1-3 days of uptime, I start having problems that get fixed by a reboot, but are still curious nonetheless. The symptoms are that the overall system responsiveness starts to slow down, as if it were constantly processing something. But I regularly check the activity monitor, and there's nothing eating up the CPU time or memory. Additionally, as I move the mouse, the screen saver will randomly appear and disappear. Also, the mouse starts to have problems distinguishing different types of clicks. It will think that a double-click is really a single click, or it will think a single click is really a right-click. And programs start crashing more, and when you open something from the dock, it no longer has a smooth bounce, it just kind of "shakes" for a few seconds, LOL Like I said, all of these things are solved by a reboot, and I do regularly check the activity monitor for anything suspicious. My relevant system specs are: X2 4400+ 1 gig ram 9200SE no CI or QE Apple iMac usb keyboard logitech usb mouse Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5790-8f1111ag-performance-problems-after-1-2-days-uptime/ Share on other sites
39thRonin
Just a shot in the dark, but since this is a development OS, I'd imagine that there are all sorts of memory leaks going on from various programs. I've noticed a bit of instability with Camino - an odinarily solid program. Just keep re-booting until the next upgrade Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5790-8f1111ag-performance-problems-after-1-2-days-uptime/#findComment-36570 Share on other sites
WaxTrax!
That's what I was thinking :-) Just seeing if I was the only one Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5790-8f1111ag-performance-problems-after-1-2-days-uptime/#findComment-36574 Share on other sites
domino
I agree with memory leaks. But it sure sounds like windows when it catches a cold Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5790-8f1111ag-performance-problems-after-1-2-days-uptime/#findComment-36600 Share on other sites
stu1
Haven't seen this myself, but because of no wireless I'm currently back to 10.4.1. (ran 1111 for a week or two though and didn't notice the problem). What does top say, if you type something like: top -F -s4 in a terminal window, what are the pageins and pageouts like. On this machine here with 4 days uptime (doing lots of compiling and ./ing ) it reads: PhysMem: 150M wired, 441M active, 258M inactive, 849M used, 166M free VM: 7.69G + 0B 101390(0) pageins, 1367(0) pageouts Which tells me it hasn't run out of memory. (If the pageouts are greater than or close to the pageins then something is asking for a lot of memory). domino
Remember that it is inherent for unix systems to use almost all your memory. In short, memory paging takes care of applications that need memory and the amount of memory it give back to the system. If this process is not pinned down on 10.4.3, then that may be the problem. I literally have at least 10 apps open and running at the same time or in the background, so for this version, it really depends on how you use it. I really can't wait for a real Tiger box. linuxfoo
i am in the same boat as WaxTrax, my native 8f1111 was running so fast previous to my installing the 8f1111g update. now my dreamweaver seems to have glitches, my 1 gig ram is almost used up, just running, dreamweaver, fireworks, itunes and safari, i believe it was like 935mb ram used. xbench only increased by like 1 point. anyway to safely revert back to 8f1111 without another reinstall? please help. my hardware: intel 915gavl, 900 gma video, 1 gig ram, 100gb ata HD os: was native install of 8f1111, as of last night - 8f1111g Edited December 15, 2005 by linuxfoo Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5790-8f1111ag-performance-problems-after-1-2-days-uptime/#findComment-36689 Share on other sites
WaxTrax!
Probably just a matter of replacing the new kernel with the older one Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5790-8f1111ag-performance-problems-after-1-2-days-uptime/#findComment-36758 Share on other sites
