zactommo
I successfully got my system up and running using the deadmoo image and the dd method, and everything works sweet. but i'm stuck at version 10.4.1. Haven't had any luck finding updates, so if anyone knows where to find them that would be great, but thats not what i'm here to ask. I got a 10.4.8 intel install dvd of a mate who got a real mac(lucky guy isn't he). If i try and boot from this disk, I get a cursor blinking in the top of the screen for about 20 seconds, then is just boots tiger as per usual. Won't let me install from within osx, the installer just closes it's self when you open it. I downloaded the generic install dvd patch, so if i image my dvd to a dmg, the apply the patch like you would on the downloadable dvd image, will i get a working dvd that can be booted from? If anyone has any idea how i can make my install dvd useable your information would be much appreciated. Cheers! Hagar
you're going about it the wrong way.. deadmoo was ancient, you need to get a new DVD & install from that. n0rad
There is currently no way that i am aware of to boot an unpatched intel mac os on a pc. You coud either get one of thode shiny JaS or uphuck releases, they are known to work pretty well, but it would be illegal to download them. If you don't want to do that, you could make a fresh start, like our DVD-releasing friends did: (MacOS and Darwin experience strongly recommended!) 1. Prepare a PC MBR-based partition table on an empty hard drive 2. create one or more primary partitions, mark the one to boot from as bootable 3. go to your mac-owning friend, connect the drive externally, format your partition as HFS+J, get some information about the partition, where it is located (/dev/disk2s1 for example) 4. Load up the DVD (but don't launch "Install OS X"!) 5. from /Volumes/<name of dvd>/System/Installatin/Packages/ launch OSInstall.mpkg, select your empty and bootable partition as target 6. you need to get a semthex or netkas mach_kernel, IRC is your friend 7. you need to get and copy some PC-specific booting stuff to usr/standalone/i386/ boot boot0 boot1h boot1u chain0 These are usually found on the hacked DVDs, the darwin ones won't work you also need /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist 8. you need a Darwin tool named "startupfiletool", should not be hard to get 9. Unmount (but don't eject your drive) 10. launch Terminal.app, type dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk0s2 !!! where rdisk0s2 is the one from step 3 !!! startupfiletool -v /dev/rdisk2s1 /usr/standalone/i386/boot 11. Go home, try booting 12. Apply patches and drivers for your hardware Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56604-offically-install-dvd/#findComment-404447 Share on other sites

Haven't had any luck finding updates, so if anyone knows where to find them that would be great, but thats not what i'm here to ask. 1) Download apple's 10.4.10 combo update 2) Install, but DO NOT reboot 3) Copy netkas' 10.4.10 kernel from irc (you'll have to ask) to / 3.5) repair permissions 4) Copy paulicat's AppleSMBios.kext to /System/Library/Extensions/ 5) in terminal: sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/ sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/ sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.mkext sudo rm -R /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches sudo reboot 6) enjoy 10.4.10 That's what I'd do anyhow... Or download the uphuck 10.4.9 dvd and jas 10.4.10 update if you prefer. Deadmoo is obsolete. Now, with respect to your official DVD, it's still usefull. Not the first, but the second disk of the set. On it are all the apps (eg. Garageband, iLife, iWork, comic life, games) that are stripped from the hackintosh install dvds and that come with "real" macs. So, to install them... download Pacifist, install. Drag the DVD icon onto the Pacifist.app. After it scans the disk, click on the top level package - it should highlight all the subsidiary packages. Click on install, enter your password. Voilà... full mac os X goodness on your hackintosh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56604-offically-install-dvd/#findComment-404484 Share on other sites
zactommo
Thanks for that. I was aware that deadmoo was oldschool stuff, but when I first heard about this stuff all the guides i read pointed to the deadmoo image, so thats what I got. Have tried downloaded newer dvd's/images, but they all go slow as hell, or don't have any seeders, so i'm stuck at the moment. This seems like a dumb-ass question, but i'm gonna ask anyway so I don't stuff things up. Where do i find netkas' 10.4.10 kernel and paulicat's AppleSMBios.kext. Are they part of the 104.10 update on the pirate bay, or do you find them seperatedly? Also, is the update on the pirate bay a combo one, or is it jsut a 10.4.9-10.4.10 deal. Thanks for the help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56604-offically-install-dvd/#findComment-405776 Share on other sites

I currently have the 10.4.10 torrent off of P.B. It has separate patches for AMD and Intel both are assuming SSE3 support, which I don't have. Do you have any suggestions on this? Thanks! zactommo
I've tried the way you said, and my own variations and am no better off at the moment. This is what i've tried so far. 1.Install apple 10.4.10 combo update(original version) - does not meet system requirments(ie installer knows its not a real mac) 2.Install apple 10.4.10 update(torrent version edited for hackintosh) - Installation commences and then says installation cannot complete, finder crashes, and system will not boot. Says loading x86 or whatever, then restarts computer. Restorted tiger back to orginal state. 3.tryed installing both patches using pacifist. When use adminstaration privileges was enabled, pacifist would have an error. When admin was unchecked, most files could not be overwritten, because admin is required. 4.Extracted contents of both packages to a folder(using pacifist), then booted in windows, and used macdrive to copy the files to approirate locations, includong the mach_kernel the the smbios or whatever it was called. Yeiled same results as 2. A non bootable system. This has got me stumped, so any input would be much appreicated. Will check torrent sites and see if I can get a install dvd or image that is not going to take a month to download. Thanks for your input Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56604-offically-install-dvd/#findComment-407009 Share on other sites

It sounds like you are installing PPC, are you sure you used this update http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/mac...tev11intel.html 2.Install apple 10.4.10 update(torrent version edited for hackintosh) - Installation commences and then says installation cannot complete, finder crashes, and system will not boot. Says loading x86 or whatever, then restarts computer.Restorted tiger back to orginal state. Maybe it's a delta? Will check torrent sites and see if I can get a install dvd or image that is not going to take a month to download. Yeah, you'd be better off with a more up to date install to start with. Make sure you install the SSE2 kernel if you CPU doesn't support SSE3. Thanks for your input No problem, to be honest I haven't tried to update a system that old before, maybe if you post your exact system specs someone else might have a better idea. zactommo
Hi I'm pretty sure it was the intel combo update, but i'll check that one. Am currently trying the 10.4.5 install dvd of PB, but its running at about 5kb/s at the moment which is pathetic. There has got to be something faster than that out there My system specs are as follows Asus P5P800 motherboard, intel north and south bridge(not sure of models, check asus website if you want to know) Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz HT CPU(HT disabled cos it messes with my windows install, works fine in OSX though, graphics problem I Think) Primary Master - Segate 40gig with OSX 10.4.1 installed Primary Slave - Segate 250gig with xp sp2. Secondary Master - BTC dvd drive(will never buy BTC again, its a piece of {censored}) NVidia Geforce 4 mx 460 64mb AGp Card Soundbaster and C-Media PCI Soundcards + realtek intergrated Audio Generic Firewire card ASkey Tview FM tuner/video capture card. Hope thats useful. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56604-offically-install-dvd/#findComment-408266 Share on other sites
