DrSupachicken
Hi Guys, My hackintosh is almost perfect, there are just a few issues that I need to iron out. 1. After upgrading to 10.4.10 in 'About this Mac' it now says my proc is a 2.8GHz Unkown. It used to say Pentium D, is there a way to fiix this? 2. When I go to network preferences in system profiler it says there are 4 airport cards in total, one of which I use. The other three are just there is there a way to get rid of that? 3. I'm still running the 8.8.1 kernel? Should I be upgrading to 8.10.1 or 8.9.1 now that im using 10.4.10? Cheers. kernalzero
for your first issue that tends to be a loginwindow problem...i ran a 10.4.4.loginwindow.pkg I have and it fixed that problem for me but I can't promise it won't crash your install. PM me if you need that file also I see you are running a GMA950, i had to dig out an old 10.4.8 disk to find the right file to get my GMA950 working at 1440x900. if you have the same issue with that let me know... can't help you with your airport issues but if you are comfortable with terminal or just comfortable with updating your kernel I say go for it, you might see some improvements...you might also kill your install too so make sure you've got backups of your data Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56543-10410-upgrade-issues/#findComment-404019 Share on other sites

What kernelzero said OR...you can edit manually what your "about this mac" says in: "/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/AboutThisMac.strings". josh256
Changing kernels may improve CPU detection however in my experience 8.8.1 is the best choice for a P4 since the OSX CPUPowerManagement kext will work.. if you upgrade you'll have to nuke that kext and play some of the 3rd-party speedstep kexts and I'm not certain there's much benefit to a non-EM64T non-VT etc proc running 8.10.X.. wanamino
That's important for me, talking about kernel and p4, i have the system of the firm, so a p4 with sse2 and hyperthreading..so you say that there's no much perfomance improvement going for a new kernel?
