Hi. I've been doing a lot of research on OS X compatible components, and I've found some excellent deals at NewEgg. Although they have great price/performance balance, I'm not sure if it's the right choice. Here's the list:

New config

Motherboard: Intel BOXD975XBX2KR

(Both processors will be $266 on July 22nd)

CPU 1: Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 1066MHz FSB

CPU 2: Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz 1333MHz FSB (not released yet)

Optical Drive: Pioneer Black DVR-112

Case: ABS Stealth CS-05A2BL Black

HDD: Samsung SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ

Video Card: MSI NX7900GS-T2D512E-OC

PSU: RAIDMAX RX-630A

Memory: G.SKILL 2x1GB PC2-6400

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

Thanks a lot.

The new config.

Motherboard: Intel BOXD975XBX2KR

CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600

(Not sure, should I get a Pioneer 112?) Optical Drive: LITE-ON SATA DVD Burner with LightScribe (I'll use LightScribe on Vista)

Case 1: NZXT Apollo Black

or

Case 2: NZXT Lexa-NP Black

HDD: Samsung SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ

Video Card: MSI NX7900GS-T2D512E-OC

PSU: RAIDMAX RX-630A

Memory: A-DATA 2x1GB PC2-6400

I bought a Bad Axe 2 from Newegg 2 weeks ago for use in my Hackintosh. It is 100% improvement over the AMD rig I was using before. Everything except audio was recognized during install. Audio is working great now aftre a patch. I only tested stereo so I can't say about all the channels thouhg. It runs Windows great too :P Awesome board for the $$$.

Okay, now I'm 100% sure about the motherboard. Now, what about the case? I like the Apollo, but I don't like the flat top and I've heard it easily scratches. The Lexa-NP seems to be better, but it's $129.99. Sure, I can afford it, but I would be saving around $60.

Thanks a lot.

Yes, get a Pioneer DVR-112, that is what Apple uses.

HD: I buy Seagate Barracuda and I am very happy with them.

I don't know that RAM. Personally I use Crucial Ballistix.

Great idea. I'll get a Mac Pro case, but I can't find it on those sites you just mentioned. :/

You could also buy a LIAN-LI PC-V2000A PLUS II SILVER. It is remarkably similar to a Mac Pro case (but it is expensive):

Personally I bought a Centurion RC-534 and I am very happy with it.

There are a lot of good hard drives out there today, but since I discovered them on Newegg's site, I swear by the Samsung Hotpoint series. They are fast (although there are faster ones available), quiet, affordable and they run fairly cool. I now have 12 of the HD501LJ's. I too have a Bad Axe 2 board. 4 of the drives are dedicated to OSX adn 4 to Windows (using the Marvell controller which OSX doesn't seem to like). The only thing that doesn't work for me yet is the mic in. I've temporarily fixed that by purchasing a USB Creative Labs 24bit External sound controller. It's small, works in Windows and OSX, but I'm still looking for an internal card that will do the job for both systems.

emm, edit button, but its all good since you only did it once. =]

id be careful with the sata, but other than that looks fine.... just check the wiki and search and you can double check me, but other than that have fun playing around with your hack!

btw welcome to the community, and if theres any issues search then ask and you should be able to get help for whatever unforseen problems may arise.

its all good my friend... its all good, its not like you posted like 20 times in a row or anything.

the q6600 quadcore costs as much as the faster dual.... so go for it. it will THEORETICALLY allmost double your performance.... real world it depends on the app..... some the dual can actually out run the quad.... but go for the quad
