I got one...it's awesome. Here's a simple checklist...if you need (not want) any of these features you should get one.

1) Visual Voicemail...do you find yourself picking through voicemail to find that one you need?

2) Detailed web use...is mobile browsing not enough?

3) iPod functions...do you hate having to carry a cell and an ipod everywhere you go?

4) Non-corporate email...do you need access to your personal email but not company email?

If you need any of those four features, which can't be found on other mobile phones, then an iPhone is for you. if you just want one, weigh the cost versus the phone...I can't talk you into an iPhone, but I can easily talk you out of one if none of those features are compelling.

And in case anyone was wondering, it works great in OS X on a Hackintosh. No issues activating other than AT&T's servers going belly up and syncing was a breeze.

Well, I really do like many of those features. I have a 60 GB iPod, and it is almost full, so using the iPhone as my iPod won't be necisary...but it will be nice to have a few albums for times that I forget to bring my iPod into my car. Also, I am on verizon, which despite not having the iPhone, does have incredible service.

Does anyone know if the iPhone allows DUN (Dial-up-networking) for a mac. For instance, if I am in a non-wi-if area, could my phone (via bluetooth or a physical connection) work as a modem for my mac?

I do like that it would sync without a 3rd party app!

it boils down to this in my opinion. much like macs all the features on the phone are simple yet effective. im not a mac fan nor a fanboy. ive owned many phones and my latest were sony ericsson M600 ,HTC wizard and was almost going to own a HTC Tytn .both which have many features but perform them in a mediocre level. both phones require tweaks ,restarts , closing of task just to keep things runnings smoothly and more often than not they wouldnt.ive had the iphone for a week now and i wouldnt recommend the phone to anyone based on its features and its "pretty" factor. what i can tell you is that the phone is absolutely SOLID. 1 week after and the phone operates like a just opened it. its just solid , for a brand new phone with no firmware upgrade and no previous revision im more than impressed but awe struck and its responsiveness. when i compared them to my older phones in response and stability theres just no phone getting even close. im sure the iphone is going to be great and i can guarantee you that you will own one.its just a matter of someone placing one in your hand for about 2 hrs.\\

in comparison to other phones like the pda ones.the iphone is first and foremost a solid PHONE.unlike some pda phones and smartphones they are both mediocre phones AND pda's.499? too much money? when i purchased my wizard i payed 499 for that too and the paint chipped 3 days later. the phone required constant access to the task manager to keep memory free in order to prevent my phone from freezing.i had such a bad experience with it that i switched from wm5 to symbian and that too was better but not great.

hope you make the right choice because after a long time of trial and error i think i finally did.

I recently moved from a Palm Treo 650 and I couldn't be happier. I find that I can type a lot faster on my iPhone than I ever could on the Treo, even after just a couple days of use. Personally, I find that more often than not I will rotate the screen and type with 4 fingers on the larger keyboard and so far have managed 41 words per minute on the typing tests that way. It is still nowhere near a desktop keyboard in speed, but it really is good enough and can keep me in contact with all the underlings at work...

Possibly the only thing that I don't like about it is that the multi-touch is inconsistent between apps.

Example, I can't spin 2 wheels at once when setting up an event in the calendar even though I can do similar things in safari, and I can't hold the shift key on the keyboard while typing to MAE things show up in caps.

While those are things that would be nice to do and would definitely enhance the overall feel of the phone as a whole, they are all things that Apple has shown in their over applications so I am cnfidentthat hey da be added in a software update in the near future.

I have to say that I am impressed with thequality and ease of use of the iPhone. In the end, it does have a very durable feel to it, so I do not doubt that I could really use this phone for the next couple years without needing to worry about it actually working then.

Nice to see everyone again, and I would like you to know that I am back...
