I live in Norway and I just have to get an iPhone!

(the Norwegian stores won't get it before September or so)

Some rumors tells me that iPhone can be "unlocked" if you pay 175$ more, am I right?

If so.. It will work in Norway and with Norwegian services.

...but have Apple already made the localization/language files for Norway?

Is it possible that when I turn on my iPhone, I can choose between many different languages?

What do you think?

hmmm, well im not sure about the whole language thing but i know that you can just buy the iphone and then pay the money for the cancellation fee on the 2 year contract and then try and take it over to norway and see if it will work over there

If it takes 2 weeks to unlock it, will I be able to do that myself?

....or should I wait 2 weeks after its release before I buy it?

If it was me, I'd wait until it is confirmed that the phone can be unlocked. May as well play it safe :)

Okey.. so the only problem is that it is locked to AT&T, even though I pay 175$ I believe.

Because I believe that the 175$ is only for canceling the AT&T montly-pay-thing/subscription, no unlocking.

...so that is great for people who already have an AT&T SIM-card, but not for people like me. In Norway we don't have AT&T, not even Vodafone or "3".

nope, you see, if you buy a gsm phone they try and lock it to their carrier, so you cant pop a at&t(formerly cingular) chip in say, a uh.... whats that other one, oh t-mobile, or vice versa, if you buy the phone from that store unless its been hacked.

&uh, verizon ftw?

and i wouldnt risk it, because that would be a big chunk of change to see that yours isnt language compatable and or it doesnt work with any norwegian carriers

and teh 175 would be just for cancelation.

if you buy direct from manufacturer they usually arnt locked, unless the phones only sold to one carrier, which this would be the case for, so uh, just dont.
