Paulo Greimel
OK, so Leopard is arriving. I asked in the 10.5 Leopard Thread if poor graphic cards will work with leopard, errandwolfe answered me that spiffy graphics (errandwolfe words) won't work, so I decided to ask people here if there is a way to upgrade a graphic card in a notebook, well, probably not. But are there external options? (I've heard about PCMCIA graphic cards, is that possible?) What do you reccomend? My other question is more simple I think. Why can I watch .mov files in QuickTime perfectly and cannot watch a DVD in VLC Player (DVD Player does not open)? My card is onboard, 64MB, Via UniChrome Pro IGP, there is also a thread in x86dev forums that briefly talks about it. And yes, I think I need a new graphic card. delish
the chance of getting a external/pcslot type gfxcard to work with osx is rather slim I think... sarahbau
I believe video expansion cards for laptops are mainly just to give support for extra monitors, not for better performance. PCMCIA is quite slow compared to PCIe or AGP. I believe the 32-bit cards have the same speed as PCI (33MHz, so 132Mbps). Paulo Greimel
Well thanks, It looks like no Leopard for me until I get a new laptop (or a MacBook).
