fireloss
Is it possible for me to put 2 x 2GB RAM in my MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.16 Ghz? Has anyone tried it before? Thanks.
munky
its physically possible, but best case scenario is you'll only be able to use 3Gb. worst case scenario is it wont work.
macprodan
in the intel docs it states up to 4Gb at 533mhz
fireloss
Do you know where the Intel Doc is? I do not know the logic board model so I can't find it out.
ph363
http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/945pm/index.htm Intel says 4gb, apple says 3. Has anyone tried 4gb? Id like more than 2gb, but don't want to sacrifice dual channel.
rollcage
I think that it's physically possible to put more than 3 gb in, but OSX is only going to see up to 3 gb as it's not 64-bit. So you wouldn't be seeing any type of performance improvement.

solaar
I can confirm from personal (a bit painful experience) that the 945 chipset - which the MBP has - only supports 4GB max grand total for all components. So if you cram 4GB in, the 945 mobo will never be able to address it all as usable RAM since it already reserved some space for all the other components. You'll only get 3.25GB RAM plus you might even run into instability problems. (that's most likely why Apple is at least 'honest' enough - unlike other manufacturers - to tell people up front that 3GB is the limit. Don't waste your money.) Do you think it would work if I replace one of the 1 GB RAM chips with a 2 GB one?
